Mobile Phone Ringtones
What are Ringtones?
Ringtones are the sounds your Mobile phone makes when someone is calling you or sent you a message so you can answer your phone or read your text. Alert tones are shorter than ring tones and used to alert you to a text message, voice message or email. Mobile phones now can be setup to make pretty much any sound you want to alert you to a incoming call or text message. You can even assign different tones to different callers and have there picture display on the screen whilst ringing.
Monophonic Ringtones
These are tones that sound like your computer beeping. The mobile phone can only product one beep at a time making these ringtones sound very simple. These were more popular in the early days of mobile technology, but have now been replaced with more complex polyphonic ringtones
Polyphonic Ringtones
Mobile phones that have the ability to play polyphonic ringtones have technology inside them that allow the mobile phone to play up to 16 different sounds at the same time. Hence the ringtones we are used to now sound more like your ipod than a phone ringing. A polyphonic ringtone can be any type of sound including voice. To add ringtones to your mobile phone you will usually need to be able to connect your mobile phone to the internet directly via a 3G network or by plugging your mobile phone into your PC. Friends can also Bluetooth their ringtones to you if their feeling nice! With technology advances moving so fast your ringtone could soon be CD quality.
