I wouldnt even give them one star but computer wouldnt allow no stars, bought a htc desire s from them in Oct 2011, phone has been in for repair twice and was due to go for a third repair. They evenually agreed to replace with a different make, sent mine back but five days later still waiting for replacement. They told me to they had posted it, but after several phone calls they reluctantly gave me the tracking number, which shows it only posted today 16/02/12 for delivery next week. Customer service very unhelpful and refused to put a supervisor on the line despite several requests

I was looking to purchase a specific PAYG phone from them, but wanted to know which of the two hardware versions available the stock they were selling had, as their website did not say.

I emailed them via their contact form on the website on the Monday, and instantly received an automatic acknowledgement email. However, six days later I had still not received an actual reply to what should have been a basic query, so emailed them a second time. Again, instant auto acknowledgement email received, but it is now nine-and-a-half days since original contact, and still they have not replied.

I certainly won't be buying from or recommending a company who can't even be bothered to reply to a basic query via their website contact form.

I bought a mobile from Phones4u and after a year the phone wouldn't charge up, no charger would work on it. To cut a long story short, the person at Phones4U tried to put the blame on me (must have got water in it etc)and said it was only guaranteed for a year. I went to Carphone Warehouse where they looked it up on the computer, found it was guaranteed for 2 years and sent it off to be repaired without any problem. I did go back and tell them at Phones4U but they had a bad attitude to the whole situation and I would NEVER buy a phone from them ever again.

Phoned the 0800 number looking at possibly getting a buy out on my current contract as I have had hardware faults over and over again. Was told that was completely fine and Phones4U would buy out my contract (which still has 15 months).
I was offered the HTC Sensation XL on Vodafone with 1200 Minutes, Unlimited Texts and 500MB Data Allowance with Unlimited Data for 3 Months as some kind of Vodafone deal, and £50 Cashback ontop of my current contract being paid off. Needless to say, I was just signed up for a new contract, but at 600 Minutes, and without the "Unlimited" Data for 3 months and my other contract is still going. Completely screwed over.

Phoned up to complain, was offered an additional £80 Cashback as a "sorry." Phoned up today to check the status of getting the package I had originally signed up for, and when I would be receiving my £130 Cashback to find that I was never put down to receive any money back, and my tariff will not be changed. The person in the call center was EXTREMELY rude when I had explained that the company had non-stop been messing me around. Will be phoning later to cancel this contract and will stay away from Phones4U for a long, long time.

Bought my first mobile from fones4u in 2003, cheapo nokia pay as you go, the slick rick wannabee estate agent treated me with contempt because i didn't want a contract.  That cheapo done me for a year and up graded to a nokia 6230 and had an O2 contract thrust upon myself. Big mistake(o2 are rip off artists)within a week i had a phonecall from someone pretending to be from fones4u offering to upgrade my insurance but they needed my bank account number, no chance mate! then to prove they were genuine they read out my IMEI number. I hung up, they ran back another 4 times i didn't answer.  i never give my number out to just anyone, they had my phone number and IMEI.  They were obviously con men who had access to fones for u and or O2 databases.  I wonder how many of fones4u employees or indeed o2's are on the take?  the answer is one or all, so it's best to avoid these two companies like the plague.  And orange as well but thats another story.

To end on a high note i was in fones4u a few years ago for a family memeber, some bloke was in being lied to about his fone and how hard it is to unlock and he( a slick rick) could do it for 50 quid on his lunch break.  Lets just say he kissed that 50 goodbye, i'd my laptop with me and unlocked it for free.  dct4 nokia

Every phone (Contratc and PAYG) I have got for myself or my family has come from P4U. I'm big into mobile tech and everything that comes with it so on a few occasions I have been more informed than the staff about the product im purchasing, but thats just me. The Staff have always been friendly and informative and the managers have always done what they can to help me when i've encountered problems (3 handsets in the last 12 years).
Before people start posting negative comments on here about the staff and managers, I think they should follow a few simple rules

1) listen to the advisor - chances are he was explaining insurance as you were drooling over the new android splash screen
2) Know what you want before you agree to it - it's easy to say yes to the extra £15 a month when your playing with Siri.
3) if you dont like it, dont lie - coming back saying its broke or its not working properly is not good. People can see through the BS.
4) It's not their fault when it does break - if your tin of beans tastes like crap, you complain to Heinz, not Sainsburys. Speak to the manufacturer/insurance
5) dont give staff attitude - you walk in acting like a hard done by tool, no ones going to really want to help you. Speak to the staff with courtesy and politeness and chances are, you'll get what you want.
6) learn to say no thanks - do you want the insurance..."no thanks"...we can give you an extra 600 mins for just £10.."no thanks"...it saves all the bad mouthing a few weeks later. Think of it as being energy efficient.
7) despite what you may think, 98% of you don't know better than the staff/manager. The 2% of you that actually do will never post on here because they are genuinely happy with what they have got.
8) research - Google is full of information. If the latest reveiw of samsungs newest phone says its prone to breaking if used in your left hand, dont complain to P4U when it breaks in your left hand.
9) listen to everything they say and answer all the questions before you get distracted with the new toy fresh out of its box.

And no, Im not a P4U employee nor do I work anywhere near the retail industry. I'm just a person with knowledge, common sense and courtecy. A very happy Phones4 U customer.

I've always wondered about this company, as its the only high street retailer that consistently avoids giving me a tariff *WITHOUT* asking me to sit down with a salesman and going through a checklist of questions.

Well, this week, my suspicions were indeed confirmed. I went in to ask for a tariff for a specific phone, and as expected, it was the old, please come and sit down routine.

The questions were laughable - I don't know who writes their training manual,  but the sales techniques look to have been lifted from an Arthur Daley 101 course. What is your name, what is your current phone number...eh? All I want is a quote so why do I have to go through this.

I tell the salesman what I'm after, and he tells me that he can give me a total of £120 cashback - £100 for an old phone and an extra £20 off for some other reason that I completely forgot about 30 seconds into the conversation.

I tell the salesman that I can get a good deal at CPW. He then states that he'll throw in an accessory kit (I think this was a car charger) on top of the £120 cashback.

I then say that I'll continue to shop around, and at that point, from behind the salesman I was dealing with, another person (I'm assuming it was the manager) stands up and says that I'll not get a better deal anywhere.

By this time, I really wasn't worried if I didn't get a better deal somewhere else - as
there was no way I was giving P4U any of my money.

Actually, the deal I got from CPW works out cheaper over the 24 month contract.

That was my first and last visit to a P4U store.

The unfortunate day was Thursday the 17th November 2011 when I walked into the Phones4U store on 18 Clumber Street, Nottingham City Centre and bought/took out a contract.

Phones4U Nottingham's Branch Manager - Brandon first served me and sold me what was supposed to be a brand new promotional bundle that was launched that day itself which was 200 mins free calls + 500 Texts + 500 MB data for £15.50.  Believing this to be a fantastic deal especially when sold by the Branch Manager himself - I went ahead and signed up.

However due to an apparent technical glitch as this new promotion code was apparently not on your systems, Adam could only choose the 100 calls+250 texts+250 Mb web for £15.50 and had that printed on my contract.

Since then, I have been to and fro with numerous phone calls and emails and both Brandon and Phone's4U Customer Service have admitted they were AT FAULT.  Brandon tried to convince me to cancel the contract as I was still within the 28day cooling-off period- this manner was also attempted by Phones4U customer service whom I explained that it would be easy to cancel BUT it would be difficult to sign-up to another contract with someone else as that would mean I would have to go through the credit-score system again and that is NOT good.

Please see the communications below and should you still wish to go ahead and buy from Phone's4U, do understand that if you get MISSOLD you will not be compensated despite them promising that they will send you a gesture of goodwill - Phones4U just WON't honour their promises!

So i have read a large amount of these comments and would agree they have a backwards way of processing orders, dealing with repairs etc, but you should all know that if a fault occurs that isn't the users fault, you can consult your network operator, or even the phone manufacturer under the warranty as opposed to returning to phones4u. I have had many phones and contracts and admittedly i have had better service from sites such as mobiles.co.uk with out hindrance or issue. I decided to go with phones4u simply because i could get a free iPad 2 with my order, i placed my order online on Saturday, on Sunday i received an email saying credit check had successfully been processed and that my phone and iPad 2 were awaiting dispatch and i will be emailed when they are so. looking on the site, it states orders placed on a weekend day will be delivered on Tuesday, well its Monday evening and i haven't received a dispatch email as of yet, i called them earlier and was told that it was definitely awaiting dispatch... but even getting through to their phone number was a challenge and a matter of try, try again. if it turns up tomorrow, ill be a happy guy, but the sales person on the phone said it could be delivered as late as Friday... and as far as insurance goes, most phone shops now promote one months free insurance because of people being mis-sold insurance, and if they are given it with out knowing, the insurance company's are now obliged to text the contract number to inform you that you have it, you can hen call them and cancel your insurance within the first month and not pay a penny. Phones4U does indeed have much to learn in customer relations though. hope I've been of help.

br />I've been using Phones 4U for over 6 years, I've bought a Motorola E1000, a Nokia N8 and a Blackberry Torch off them in that time.

During that time they have undergone a major transformation becoming more customer friendly and in particular have stopped the chugger-type hustling of passers by.

I have found Phones 4U staff to be well informed and polite.

Phones 4u offer competitive prices on handsets and tarrifs. They also sell all their handsets 'unbranded' and 'unlocked'-this allows some interesting combinations-eg an HTC Sensation XE on Orange-where an Orange branded version isn't yet available.

One little point is that sometimes the unbranded handsets don't have full compatibility with all network functions. For example the HTC Sensation XE is NOT (as yet) compatible with Orange 'Signal Boost' function.

Phones 4u aren't perfect-no shop is but they are certainly a major force in Mobile phones both on the High St and they can't have got that by being useless with customers.

Some of the moans about them here are IMHO unjustified. For example if you order on-line, why should one of their stores have to sort out any problems? Their staff are ruthlessly targeted and it isn't fair for them to have to sort out an issue they aren't responsible for.

Overall though, Phones 4u have proved more than good enough for my repeat business and intend to use them again sometime in the future

Many of you are probably thinking already " yeh yeh he must work for phones 4u for sure " well actually i DON`T !
I went into one of there stores in kiddy minster and bought a galaxy ace from them which unfortunately went wrong so i phoned them up about it .
They told me " just bring it back and we`ll replace it for you " but to be honest i`d lost faith in the phone and asked them if they could change it for a different phone ( which under there policy you could`nt ) but they said  "yes that`s fine we`ll do that for you no problem "
So they did actually change it for a different phone completely ( curve 9360 ) but after only a week a found it`s battery life was terrible so i called them about it and they agreed yet again to change it for a curve 9300 which i know from past experience that the curve 9300 has good battery life !
When i went to the store in Hereford this time ( phones4u store manager was very helpful and very professional in helping me as so was the rest of the staff there ) they did the exchange and really made me feel like a valued customer in the way of offering to set up the phone for me and ask if i`m happy with my choice and so on and all with a big smile .
Now please tell me what is wrong with phones4u as i have never had such good service from any phone company EVER !!!
Can i simply say that anyone who is thinking of buying a phone from phones4u then go ahead with confidence and do so .
I`m not saying that they will change every customers phone for a different model but if your honest with them and show respect then they will show you just how good customer service can really be !
Many thanks for reading this review and hope it proves very useful indeed .

Phones 4 u customer service definitely depends on the branch and the area.
I lived in Liverpool and the phones 4 u store there was appalling. They were clearly salesmen and were not interested if anything went wrong with the phone.

However, I have recently moved to London. The store here has completely changed my opinion of them. My blackberry was faulty, and wasn't water damaged (I had had the phone for 11 months). I took it into the Ealing store and the staff were fantastic. They swiftly organised a repair, discounted a cheap phone so that I could still contact people and told me my phone would be sent to my home address.

They told me, in extreme cases re-delivery could take up to 8 weeks. My case was extreme. However, I did receive a phone call from head office after a week, telling me I was to get a brand new handset, but it was being sent from Hungary, because my other one was beyond repair. This new phone was free of charge.

The ealing phones 4 u then rang me to follow it up after 5 weeks, to make sure everything was o.k
excellent support and service and would definitely recommend that store.
Like I said, it does depend on your area, so don't tarnish ALL phones 4 u stores with the same brush.

Just want to say some people on here are dumb or dont have any common sense. for example, if you your telling me you wasn't aware you taken out insurance, what were you lot signing when they was going over the contract papers? dont you look double check what you are signing. another dumb person on here said that they wanted to exchange there phone as it been water damaged. how dumb can you be. if the phone water damaged it voids the warranty. if you are not sure of something ask the question. if you feel the contract two expensive tell the sales consultant it is. i think some people here need to have some common sense when they are buying a contract.

After being told by head office to get in touch with the repair centre to c wot they can do. They said they could not do anything. So they fefurred me back to you guessed it head office. They were not helpful at all. They said all they can do is to get it repaired again, then if it happens again at least 2 to 3 times wihin 90 days then they will exchange it. My point is that head office were not very helpful and I did not come away happy. Dont go to p4u.

Ok
let's begin! On the 11th of june I have been called by an Assistant from Phones4u who sold me an upgrade as my contract finishes in August 2011. He was very good, he spoke very quick and I said yes i will take the upgrade. After I did some thinking that day and some search on internet I realized that I could get a better deal somewhere else so I called vodafone the same day to ask them to cancel. Now that was the first thing, vodafone  told me that if I do not accept the handset and not signed for it there will be no upgrade. Vodafone told me to call phones4u and  cancel with them also. Three weeks I have spend trying to cancel this upgrade even if I did not signed anything also I did not accept any handset. Yesterday 27th of june I found out that the upgrade has been processed at 12.30 pm without me signing anything or receiving any handset. Also When I have the spoken to the manager Rebeca around 3.00pm she confirm to me that everything was cancelled. Then around 4.00pm she changed her mind and decided that somebody has processed the upgrade at 12.30 that day. FRAUD!!! They processed the upgrade I mean they are  forcing me to take a contract I do not want because they want their comission.  Now you tell me if this is right or no. If the situation does not clear within 7 days I am going to sue phones4u. Also please if you had a similar experience with phones4u get in touch I am interested to know.
I am sorry, but NO NEVER GO to phones4u just go straight to the retailer and they will be much better help.

Fantastic customer service at the Wigan branch. The staff took the time to find out my usage and made a real effort to get me the correct phone as it was stressed to me that they are not permitted to do a non like for like exchange if i decided i didnt like it. They gave me a demo of the two handsets that best suited what i wanted and then fully explained why they had come up with the deal they had. They also covered off how my billing would work and how the insurance was seperate and billed differently. All the policies they are required to stick to were fully explained. The Are you happy sheet at thye end confirmed everything. I am definately happy. I cant understand why people are complaining about faults and insurance. If you actually listen to the salespeople instead of just thinking about your new phone their process covers it all off. Take note of the are you happy sheet and you will not be so mad when something goes wrong.

As per Phones 4 U instructions I tried to track the number given to me by them. The tracking number is not on the system.
Phoned today asking about the phone, it is now 3 working days after the order was placed, the phone has not yet been dispatched. However my contract has been changed. Customer service's only response is "we do quote 5-7 working days for delivery".
The 5-7 working days if for them to post it, even when they only had the order because the phone was in stock and fast delivery promised.

Used phones4U shops many times.  I've always found the staff in my local branch to be really helpful and they have always given me a much better deal than the network directly, even at upgrade time.
I have recommended many friends to go there too.
Recently I tried to get the same deal in store that they had online.  They could not do it, but used their phone to get the order placed with that side of the business.  Phone arrived swiftly, but I wasn't at all happy with the battery life.  Phoned customer services, arranged to return the phone (they send out a postage bag) and ordered a different phone as replacement.  New phone arrived couple of days later, followed by the bag to return the first one.
I have never experienced anything but polite, knowledgeable staff and good customer service, at the local branch and now with their online service.
One thing I always do is decide what type of phone I actually want, do some research first, then go into the store.

I traded my phone in and I was told that my phone numbers got transfered onto my sim card which I kept and they did not, lost all my friends contacts. I just want to say to all you winchy people that perhaps before you slate something you should use your brain and think a little! If u have bought a phone online or overthr phone why should you be able to take it back to a shop! Helllloooo! It's cheaper online and over the phone as there is no overheads and no customer service.a business could not survive on being just your customer service store when you didn't rem buy it direct from the store! So if you are considering purchasing from any mobile retailer over the phone or online don't then go into the store on the high street complaining you can't set it up or it's faulty! Send it back to where you got it from that's why you pay less! And if you do purchase a handset from a mobile retailer on the high street and your handset goes faulty it is NOT the shops fault! Did the shop make your phone? No! The manaufacture is the one at fault if your handset is broken! Which is why the retailer has to send it back to the manufacture ad stated by trading standards after 28days! And may I also add if you recieve bad customer service just consider your attitude towards that sales consultant and wonder why they may not be as accommodating! Now I will say yes I work in a mobile retailer but this does not affect my opinion and I do understand there are some sales consultants(in all businesses) are con men etc but do not tar us all with the same brush and consider what I have stated!

I purchased a Samsung Galaxy S with a contract on T-Mobile from the online Phones 4 U shop.

Within a week the handset stopped working completely and would not even switch on.  I called customer service who gave me an authorisation code and told me to take it to the nearest Phones 4 U branch.

I took it to the nearest P4U branch, who told me they could not replace the handset because it did not "come from their stock" and that it was the responsibility of the online store to replace it.

Back to square on, contacted customer service at the online store and the representative apologised and said I was misinformed by their previous agent and that a padded envelope would be sent so I can send the faulty handset in for a new one.  Four working days passed and I did not receive the envelope so I phoned customer services again.  They said they would send another padded envelope and that it would be with me within 5 working days.  Four days have passed as of today and now on this second attempt I have still not received an envelope.

I am fortunate that my partner had a spare handset to put my sim-card in or I would be paying a contract but receiving no service for it and would be completely without a mobile phone as this was a replacement for an old pay as you go handset.

I feel P4U needs to review their stocking and distribution policies.  If you buy a handset from any of their suppliers you should be able to take your handset to any of their branches for repair, replacement or service.  I am entering my third week without a handset that is costing me a considerable amount of money.

This is the make and model of handset that I want, I just expect better and prompter service from Phones 4 U.

Poor, very poor indeed.

The phone was freezing and with the store been awkward to get to I planned to leave it until I could get into town at my convenience, but then, you got it folks the phone completely stopped working and now won't turn on. I had to sit and nag until I was told I will be sent £15 in a cheque form to "get a replacement handset" which is ridiculous!!! I complained to my solicitor about phones 4u because they sold me a faulty phone on contract and refused  to replace it 24 hours after i signed the contract,

when i returned to the shop to see the manager i was shown up in front of the staff and the public  also, they tried to make fun of me by insulting my inteligence,
T-mobile customer services knew my phone was not working correctly and advised me to return the phone back to the shop,
phones4u tried to say it was me that was faulty and the phone was in perfect order,

i left the phone with them cancelled the contract and have never to this day been to any of their shops,
that incident took place in 2006, so you see people dont complain to the websites because we cant be bothered sometimes,
