The 3 mobile network is available throughout eight countries and has over 10 million customers. In the UK alone, 3 has acquired 3.5 million 3G customers, up by nearly half a million since March 2005.

If you are after a good deal on your next 3 mobile phone with the latest technology then 3 UK would definitely be an option would considering. Three have just introduced a new Mix and Match plan similar to T-Mobile’s Flext Tariff. With the new Mix and Match Tariff you receive a monthly allowance that can be used for texts or minutes. For example with Mix and match 500 you will receive 500 credits. This could be used as 300 texts with 200 minutes or 100 Minutes and 400 texts, its entirely up to you. To make things simple just remember one credit can be 1 text or 1 minute.

www.3.co.uk also have texter plans. For 15 pounds a month you get 600 free text messages and 75 free anytime/network minutes. If this is not quite enough for you then you could upgrade to there £20 a month texter tariff which will give you a generous 1000 texts and a 100 free minutes. All texter plans on www.3.co.uk are 18 month contracts.

If you were thinking of choosing 3 as your mobile phone provider - Don't Bother. My son has had a 3 contract for 2 years and was not happy with the reception so decided to change providers so he needed a PAC code from 3 in order to keep his old telephone number. This should have been a fairly easy task and apparently they are supposed to provide this PAC number within two hours. He cancelled the contract on Friday 4th January and then phoned on Saturday 5th Jan for the PAC code, he was told that they had to cancel the contract again and he would get the code within 48 hours, I was not happy with this and phoned them back to ask why we could not have it sooner, the operator told me I could have the code in 30 days when the contract notice period had ended. He then spoke to his supervisor and told us we could have the code by text within 48 hours and we would not have to wait the 30 days, he would waive this. Monday came and we didn't receive a text. My son phoned again on Thursday and was told they would have to cancel the contract again to give him a PAC code and he would get it by voicemail in 48 hours, it is now 3 days later and we are still waiting for the PAC code, having cancelled the contract four times. I don't know what else we are supposed to do to get this blessed PAC code. **3 ARE A COMPLETE JOKE, THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE ARE USELESS - DON'T TOUCH THIS COMPANY WITH A BARGE POLE!!"

I have been using 3 on my iPhone for a year, and it has been really poor from the start. Poor coverage, constantly dropped calls, very slow 3G Internet, and worst of all, absolutely rubbish customer service!!!

After lots of problems I finally decided to cancel my contract. Spent 20 minutes arguing on the phone with a guy in India, who barely spoke English and who tried to convince me to stay with the Network, sell me alternative contracts, cell phones, and what's not... He also put me on hold 4 times (2-3 minutes each time) and called me a liar because I stated two different reasons for leaving (both of which I mentioned in the beginning of the call, but he apparently only heard one of them), so when I repeated them later on in the call, he said that I had now changed my argument and had lied to him.

Absolutely furious and ready to throw my phone out the window, I finally got him to cancel it!!!

Useless company and would not recommend even to my worst enemy. Would have given 0 stars if possible.

Just off the phone with their customer service team and now ready to burst into tears.

I had a rolling month broadband dongle for 5GB a month, I discovered they were taking double payments and called them to find ourt why, in that call the guy apologised and as an apology he offered me 15GB a month upgrade which I was pleased with and in the same call he asked me if I would like a new laptop and if so I could take out the 15GB for 24 months and recieve the laptop free of charge, that sounded perfect as I had just moved into a new flat and I was short of cash. A few months down the line I got a call to say that they had not recieved my payment, I had paid on time as always and told them this to which they replied "you haven't used your contract data at all since taking it out" well, this certainly wasn't right and I informed them, turns out on the day I got my "Upgraded" new account the call handler opened a second account with the "free laptop" for 0.5GB a month, I was informed my 15GB a month was still on a rolling contract despite my plan stating on "my 3" page saying I have 15GB 24 Month. I am at my wits end as I now have a contract I never asked for, I put in a complaint and they have said I KNEW what I was taking out, rubbish as I would never have agreed to a 24 month contract with 0.5GB a month as tht would have been useless for me. No idea where to go from here and I am very stressed.
DO NOT TAKE ANY ACCOUNT FROM THIS COMPANY.

Phone and coverage fine. No problems. However, getting the phone unlocked for use for a move overseas has been an unresolved  nightmare. Customer 'services', seem to work on a 'can't do' principle and are unable to supply my with a simple unlocking code.

There have been a number of emails, following pointless phone calls which has dragged this on for a month. The questions are never resolved as one CS drone, doesn't read what has been written in previous bullet pointed ones leading to me writing the same email again.

In addition, I am supposed to feel grateful that the code may be supplied for a 'one off' fee of 15.00 and that I am helping them with their Customer Service policies.

Beyond useless.

3 have got my vote because they are the only 3G network in the countryside. Yes the reception is patchy, but for all other providers it's non existant.
Download speads in my area for O2 are typically 50 Kb/sec, BT (Landline) 2Mb/sec, but with 3 I have achieved 10 Mb/sec!

Only gripe I have with 3 is the largest dongle plan is 15Gb per month. If they would only do a 30 Gb plan I may not even bother with a landline.

Awful.

1. I've been grossly overcharged on my broadband data allowance; they just seem to pull data usage out of the air then don't give you itemised bills of when you've been online, so even if you record your own usage you can't see if that's what they're charging you for (In at least one case it definitely wasn't).

2. Customer service is terrible. You'll be in a queue for twenty minutes then get cut off. This has happened to me several times in a row, and with their 0843 numbers (i have 3 broadband but an orange phone) it's obscenely expensive. When you do get a CS agent, they speak poor English, the signal is bad and they keep talking for ages about things you aren't interested in.

3. Signal is poor at best. My broadband speeds were snails' pace, and only worked in particular parts of my house.

Once you complain to them they will not attempt to call you back even though they do promise to do so. I am going to take them to trading standards and ofcom!

Can't believe some of these 3 reviews as they are nothing like my experince.

I have an iPhone on 3 unlimited data package and am very happy (except that Apple phones still have rubbish battery life from charge).

Phone package was cheapest on market, more minutes and texts than anyone could use in a month and totaly uncapped data limit.

The girl in shop was knowledgable and helpful and I left shop with fully working phone.

No connection problems and its great to be able to use data whenever and wherever. I even sit at football match watching Sky Sports with perfect reception.

Some people will have problems with all mobile providers, I did with both o2 and Tesco but so far 3 have been great.

My Dad was tricked into buying 2 skype phones from 3 as I was living in Oz and he had seen an ad showing a deal for 2 phones saying, buy one for yourself and send one to a relative in Oz. The guy in the shop explained that as long as you had put credit on your phone within the last month or still had 10 pounds credit remaining you could use the skype app for free. Perfect we thought. My dad asked if it would work from Oz, with an Oz sim card and they said yes.

My dad is of an older generation and not that technically minded so I don't know exactly what he asked but the top and bottom of it is that they told him one phone would work here and one phone would work there (which was what they were actually advertising) .

Well, when I tried it in Oz of course it didn't work and their response was that it would have to be unlocked to work with an Oz sim card but then it would definitely work. Paid 15 pounds to have it unlocked and surprise surprise it still didn't work. Charger would not work with an Oz plug adaptor so could only charge it via usb cable on my computer. Tried buying charger in Oz and the phone wouldn't accept it, only worked through computer. 3 store staff wouldn't do anything to help. Next thing my dad's phone stops charging. We swap chargers and weirdly they work on each other's phones - for a short while, then both phones just stop working and will not switch on. Store staff do not know anything about the problem and refuse to help. Useless!

Well you can live with poor customer service which is equally poor with most mobile networks. You can live with broken price promises because you know they have scores of people working listlessly on creating complex pricing plans where you always end up paying more than you thought - they all do. What you can't live with is paying for a service that they do not provide ... Living and working in London I would expect three to be the best choice as they are 3G only and focus on cities - and looking at the coverage map on three's website my home, my local area, my route to work in central London, and the areas I go for customer visits are all blessed with full reception. Still, I can hardly ever use my phone in the house, I lose signal everywhere, often in the middle of calls. And the Internet is as slow as the old days on a modem. So I am counting the days to the end of my contract - my work mobile from O2 works everywhere, bless it. So sod the clever marketeers at three, their service is pants.

DO NOT CONSIDER THIS COMPAN!!

I took out a dongle with three on a 30 day rolling contract all seemed great and easy plus the information I was given was that signal in my area was excellent - which if this is true I am glad I dont stay in an average zone as you could go away and make a cup of tea come back and it would still be trying to open your email.

After calling up to cancel my 30 day rolling contract it took my 55 mins in totally on the phone to finally get this done.

I understand the girl I spoke to is underpressure to persuade you to take out a different contract rather than cancel but this part of the call took 20mins alone, the girl had taken my phone number and said she would call me back should we get cut off which she didnt and on my second call had to speak to a man who was as equally lacking in customer service skills.

The information I have received from the two people today and the person I took the contract out with all contradicts each other so I dont doubt that I will have the unfortunate experience of having to talk to one of the 'customer service' agents again - already I can feel a migrane coming on at the thought.

In summer, not a good service and terrible customer services - I have been with o2 for my mobile phone for many years and didnt think it was possible to come across a company who were less customer focused than them today I discovered that you could!!! :(

Don't select Three 3g Network - might offer good mobile deals but once they've got your custom they could not care less about you.

Bought an iphone 4S from online store - have had it 10 days now and it will not make a phone call or text. Have spent everyday calling India 5-6 times at cost to myself to try to get resolved - keep getting cut off mid call or on hold for best part of call. I have also had to visit a local Three store to change sim card (but interesting can't do same with handset - they are separate businesses!).

Have also been told I have used phone so can't cancel contract/return iphone - yet they instruct you to connect to itunes to set up phone and this is classed as using it. Can only return phone if unused - I want to cancel as I have been provided defective equipment but thefar flung call centre won't hear any of it. No-one to speak to in UK, bounced back emails and same speel from call back to my online complaint. Have been going round and round in circles at cost to me. Best offer I have had is a handset exchange but I'll have to wait a month - I'm not a priority customer!

People who own and run this business should be ashamed - I will ensure I tell everyone looking for a new phone deal to avoid this disgusting and disgraceful mobile phone operator like the plague. I have been with Vodaphone and Virgin for over 10 years and never had any problems - biggest mistake I have ever made.

Yet another car journey today to local Three store to beg for help - they have given me a cheaper UK number to call not the 0844 high cost one. They did best to help - allegedly a phone arriving in 3 days to my home for an exchange - perhaps a working phone 2 weeks after they started charging me for one? I have little faith...

3 has the most DISGRACEFUL customer services department that possiby exists on this planet.  They tell lies, are abusive to customers, and are utterly incompetent - I believe they are located offshore.  However the Chief Executive must take personal responsiblity for reaching this staggeringly low level of customer service and should RESIGN immediately if he has any pesonal decency about him.  I note that others have recommended trading standards - I agree and will contact them as well as the CEO's professional body, goverment procureent agencies, OfCom to ensure that nononelse get such a disgusting level of treatment.  Their licences to operate should be withdraw immedieately.

Why am I so angry with "3"?  I was in the desert recently in the Middle East, wholly dependent on a fuctioning mobile to avoid lives being put at risk - I have a monthly contract so all payment details and access to my corporate bank account is available to "3" when "3" decided to cut off my service.  When I was eventually able to ring "3" from a land line (at a cost of £28)I was treated to a rude operative who could only repeat a mantra that a prescribed limit had been exceeded - no such limit had been previously intimated to me by "3" but to avoid complicated conversations I paid immediately  by corporate credit card the amount due and was then told it would be 24 hours before a connection could be made.  I informed this indiviual that was unacceptable and dangerous to my group - he could not care less.  I then e-mailed my PA in the UK to take up the case at lesser cost.  She was subjected to a torrent of abuse from the operators at the call centre and when she asked to speak to a manager they refused but said one would call back - we still wait.  Some 55 hours later and still no connection yet they told her it would only be 2 hours to wait - you cannot even ring "3" on their so called help line on 333 from the mobile.

The last known name of the CEO is Kevin Russell and he is an accountant  but if he is still the CEO he remains impossbile to contact - he does not publish his e-mail address - is this because he would spend all day answering complaints.  It would serve him right if the share price of 3 was to tumble and he would lose his job - and rightly so.

Anyone thinking of using 3 - THINK AGAIN and GO TO any other provider- at least you will get a service unlike from this company of cowboys.

DISGUSTING DEPLORABLE - SHOULD LOSE LICENCE TO OPERATE

Have they got the courage or even the competence to respond to the long litany of complaints to be found on this website.

Tempted by the cheap monthly tariffs - DON'T BE you will suffer from the worst in the world telecomms company's service soon after!!!!!

Thats when I found 3 I was a bit afraid at first having heard all sorts of rummers as to the quality of the reception but decided to give it a go as they offered a refund if not happy.
Iam absolutely amazed I travelled all the way from Nottingham to Cornwall without once loosing a 3G connection allowing me to use my napster account to its full potential and stream music constantly likewise last week when I travelled North there seems to be consistent 3g coverage something I was never used to on O2
The coverage for normal calls is also very good and although I don't get quite so good coverage at home as I did with O2 it has not caused any real problems and I have had coverage where ever I go.
Add the fact that I now get a fantastic amount of minutes texts and unlimited internet in my monthly package of just £40.00pm
this has to be the best deal on the market
so glad I changed

Unfortunately, this website is typical of most review websites, in that it doesn't really give a true picture. Remember the simple formula (can't remember which tv show said it):
For every ten people that get good service, one of them writes a review.
For every ten people who get poor service, one of them doesn't write a review.

If Three were as bad as this website makes out, Trading Standards would have hammered them into the ground long ago. The fact is, they have millions of perfectly happy customers.

It's difficult to be objective, because I've had good service from Three. They are a great network with good value tariffs and cracking handsets available. Their only let down is the very average customer service, and I say that as someone who has generally had good service from their Indian call center (refunded me a very expensive call accidentally made by my youngest child. They didn't have to do that).
It takes a while to actually speak to someone and it's interesting that different departments seem to have a very different waiting time (Upgrades dept takes about 30 seconds to get connected, Customer Retentions dept who handle customers about to leave, between 15 and 30 minutes). I think some of the comments on this website were slightly exaggerated as the people who handle the calls are generally friendly and do their job to the best of their ability. Some things are genuinely out of their hands and they can't really help but tell you that (to then probably receive a load of abuse)

If you don't have to contact the customer services then I would definitely recommend Three as 5 Star. I am doing my best to be objective so I've knocked them a star off for their customer service.

I recently bought iPhone 4S from three.  Since its reputation was not one of the best, I tried PAYG sim with three for about 10 month before the purchase. During PAYG period, I did not find any problem with customer service, but rather it was good. So, I went with three for new iPhone 4S.  I must tell you that my experience with three is pretty good.  Network speed on iPhone 4S is brilliant on most area. iPhone 4S takes great advantage of fast HSPA+ network of Three!  "The One plan" provides me 2000 min talk, 5000 text and  all you can eat data which I can even tethered to my laptop. Yet I pay only £35 pm, and initial cost of phone was very competitive.  However, I did have a problem when I ordered phone on the web page as these online-sales are handled by phones4U.  Anyway, Three is improving network quality, and I am very happy to be with Three.

When I wanted to cancel my contract I couldn't do it right away, for some reason I still had to pay 1 extra month. I cancelled it in April, paid for May. I was in the US at the time, returned to the UK in October and was shocked to see my bank statement - ALL THIS time they were charging me 5 pounds/month for the insurance, even though I told them to cancel everything related to my account, they didn't say a word about the insurance. They're trying to scam people whenever they have a chance! HATE THEM! NEVER AGAIN!

I renewed a contract over the phone with them, which I canceled within the 14 day period. I had been told that all calls I made whilst in Ireland would come off my free minuets however this was not the case. I then wrote two recorded delivery letters explain to them what happened, they were not interested.
The debt has now been passed on and I will not pay!!! The debt company asked me to ask for the phone conversation from the day I renewed the contract and three refused to give me any information.

I have been with 3 for several years and recently had a network connection issue at home (sometimes it took ages to connect). I really can't fault 3 customer service - they took the problem on board, investigated and phoned me back to say there was an issue with the mast capacity which needed upgrading. This would take 3 to 4 weeks and, in view of this, they would credit me with 1 month's line rental. I got a free month and they did fix the problem as promised.

Disappointing, out of order and borderline fraud.

I attempted to place an order online for an iPad 2. My primary motivation for buying online was that it showed delivery for within 1 week.

I placed the order and within 4 minutes of the order being placed (and receiving the order confirmation email) I got another email asking to call their Customer Service team to 'provide additional information'.

I called and I was told my payment was declined for 'Fraud Prevention', not a great start. Upon re-authorising the payment I was told that the delivery was going to be over 2 weeks and it was possible it could be even longer!

Why ask the customer to choose a delivery date when its plain wrong.

No one at Three was much apologetic neither offering any help to resolve.

What a con.

All I can say is thank god I found out now and I didn't waste a day waiting for a delivery that wasn't ever going to happen.

Be very careful.

I joined 3 at the start of the year because of their iphone 4 deals. I was previously with Orange who promised me a deal and then went back on their word and refused to give me anything for my 12 years of loyalty.

3 sorted me out with the phone for £40 less than orange and gave me twice as many mins and 4400 more texts for my £30/month + Free Apple bumper worth £20.

The 3 signal is consistently strong in my house and the surrounding areas and I have a 3G signal most of the time, although I generally hook up to WIFI where I am. (Home/work/friends)

I found the customer service helpful and friendly when setting up my phone and even when I was getting inpatient they remained A+

After my experiences with three i do not want to rate them but only say that they take payment for lack of/no service. 3s idea of solving a problem is to make an excuse, the customer service is a joke and if you dont pay them through sheer frustration you will find yourself passed on to several dept collectors for payment. I am still trying to sort out problems after more than a year and am still being asked to pay. I changed my service provider and have 2 mobiles and a dongle and have had no problems and no lack of service. Why should three or anyone get payed for a poor/no service? I have had to go to OTELO and am still after all this time not sorted. In my opinion DO NOT GET THREE NO MATTER WHAT DEAL i could go on and on.

They may be cheap, but that is for a reason.  While their phones and tariffs may be OK, their customer service is appalling.  Their UK-based staff are ignorant, rude and money motivated (they work on commission), while their Indian call center staff are poorly trained.  If all goes well - fine, but if there is a problem, then all hell will break loose.  I actually had to go to OTELO (the ombudsman) because with these guys you only hit a brick wall.  My advice to anybody looking for a contract would be to stay well away from these cowboys. You get what you pay, after all.

In December 2010, respected consumer magazine 'Which' named 3 as having the worst customer services of all of the UK networks. 3 ranked 69th out of 75 companies who provide an ethereal service.

An already miserable experience for many looks set to worsen in 2011 as 3 push their new unlimited downloads package for smartphone users. While the leading networks have opted to maintain a responsible approach which doesn't penalise mobile broadband customers paying for fixed allowances, 3 have chosen to once again demonstrate a complete disregard to customers by "spotting a gap in the market". Furthermore, 3 will permit tethering - which is the ability to use a sim card in any device, such as a pc or laptop. In other words, users have computer access to unlimited downloads and so this will inevitably worsen a service which is currently the poorest rated in the UK and subject to more negative reviews by customers than any other network in each year since its inception, which was 2008.

It's therefore clear that the only sensible advice to give to fellow consumers is to avoid 3 and take all business to a reputable network who are better equipped to service both you and your needs. The cheapest is very rarely the best and most certainly isn't with mobile phones or mobile broadband.

I am using a SIM free Nokia E51 on 3's pay as you go service. It seems like a good deal to me, only down side is their web site doesn't show the call tariffs and claims free 3 to 3 calls... That is only free within your own country not to 3 mobiles overseas. A test call to an Australian 3 customer came out at a whopping 75p per minute.

The 3G data coverage is better than any other network I've checked and favours motorway and A roads. My village has two 3 masts, one at each end, which gives incredible coverage for a location outside a city.

The free Skype to Skype is an excellent deal, but watch out as only a few phones will work directly with Skype and you apparently need to download the Skype application directly from 3 and it blocks Skypeout calls to your own country. That is a bit sneaky. Note the excellent Nokia E51 doesn't have a Skype application available as at June 09.

Still 3 set the benchmark and others will have to keep up.
