BlackBerry Magnum review

Expert Rating:
- QWERTY with Touch screen
- No secondary camera
BlackBerry is the mother of all devices when it comes to QWERTY texting and it is expected that the legacy will continue with the Blackberry Magnum. What is so exciting about it? There are already several QWERTY smart phones available in the market and BlackBerry has a good number of it as well. The biggest highlight of this still-rumoured mobile phone is that BlackBerry Magnum will be the combination of BlackBerry Curve 8900, BlackBerry Storm2 9520, and BlackBerry Bold 9700. So, get ready to experience the standalone handset from the house of BlackBerry that will bring on top notch smart phone with full QWERTY keyboard and immaculate touch screen. All the big mobile phone companies are combining QWERTY and touch screen in their latest smart phones and BlackBerry, now, expectedly joining the bandwagon soon. The release date of the handset is yet not announced, rather there is no official confirmation from the BlackBerry as of now. However, the world is waiting for the official announcement, which is expected to take place sometimes soon.
The look of BlackBerry Magnum
The style of BlackBerry Magnum is quite similar to that of Bold. To get more specific, it is more close to the Bold 9000 mobile than the Bold 9700 model, which has a different keyboard. Its shiny black body looks strong and attractive. On the top of the screen, the logo of BlackBerry is positioned and the major controlling touch sensitive keys are placed right below the screen. The total size of the screen is 2.6 inches, which is a TFT capacitive touch screen. The colour display is 65,000 and the resolution is 480 x 360 pixels. The overall measurement of the phone is 114 x 66 x 14 mm and its weight is 133 grams. The QWERTY keyboard is easy to use, and it is perfect for texting, emailing, and instant messaging.
BlackBerry Magnum – network and connectivity
Network and connectivity make the basic features of a mobile phone. BlackBerry Magnum is supportive of both 2G and 3G networks. It supports the quad band GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 and tri band 3G HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100. With HSDPA, the browsing experience is expected to be at high speed. It is speculated that the Magnum will bring in HSDPA 3.6 Mbps speed. Apart from that, there are regular Class 10 GPRS with 32 - 48 kbps speed and Class 10 EDGE with 236.8 kbps speed. Therefore, the users can expect high end internet connectivity. Not to forget, WLAN is also anticipated to be present in the mobile phone. For the purpose of connectivity, the users can enjoy both wire-based and wireless data transfers. microUSB deals with the chord based connectivity while Bluetooth® v2.0 deals with wireless connectivity. Therefore, the users can easily transfer files to/from other compatible devices.
Memory feature of BlackBerry Magnum
Every smart phone must come with a solid back up of the good memory features. Just having sufficient memory for storing phone book records and certain ring tones are not enough. The concept of mobile phone usage is changing constantly. Earlier, a mobile phone was purchased just for the purpose of good communication with calling features only. Now, people engage into different high-tech communication mediums such as instant messaging or social networking. To avail such communication facilities in the mobile phones, different applications are required to be installed and that requires good memory. Apart from communication, a wide section of the mobile phone buyers purchase handsets for the entertainment purpose such as watching videos, playing games, listening to music, etc. All these factors, require good memory as well. So, what is the memory update of the BlackBerry Magnum? The integrated memory is expected to provide practically unlimited entries and fields for phone book features and call records. However, there is a card slot for upgrading memory up to 8 GB. So, the memory feature is quite good in the handset.
Camera of the BlackBerry Magnum
It is a fact that many people buy mobile phones just for the camera feature. It is quite difficult to carry two devices at a time like a mobile phone and a camera. With a camera mobile phone, the users have no chance to miss out any moment that he or she wishes to capture forever. In the present times, the importance of featuring a good camera has increased tremendously, especially because of the high end smart phones like Apple iPhone 3GS or HTC Google Nexus One. However, the BlackBerry phones were never famous for the camera features, but it must cope with time and integrate good camera features as well. This is a real spoiler in the handset as the BlackBerry Magnum is just including a 2 mega pixel camera with LED flash and a resolution of 1600x1200 pixels. Those who are expecting a good camera will be disappointed with the BlackBerry Magnum.
BlackBerry Magnum Review - Music and video
After the camera, music is probably the biggest attractive of the mobile phones these days. It is a perfect pass-time activity as the user can easily plug in the music controls and listen to their favourite tracks, whenever they want. The BlackBerry Magnum features a music player that can play MP3/ eAAC+/ WMA files. Just like the music player, there is a video playback in the phone as well. The video player is capable of playing MP4/ WMV/ H.263/ H.264 files. Other entertainment features include gaming application, both integrated and downloadable.
The above mentioned features and specifications are just expected to come with the BlackBerry Magnum. As there is no official announcement of the phone, there might be changes or inclusion of new features as well. As of now, we have to keep waiting for the official announcement of the BlackBerry Magnum.
