BlackBerry Storm 2 review

BlackBerry Storm 2 review

The Blackberry Storm has already raged the market of mobile phones with its excellent features and attributes. There is a rumor that BlackBerry is planning the second version of storm and it is going to be named as Storm 2. It is also expected that the model number of the handset set would be 9550. A popular website based on mobile phones have released a video footage about this handset that is called BlackBerry Storm 2 9550. From the footage, it is straightaway clear that the device is very much worthy to wait for. The video revealed quite a few details about this next generation BlackBerry device. Some of the major factors that need to be mentioned are – the device, which was shown on the video used the early versions of the hardware and software though the latest versions are already available. Hence, proper judgment on the performance of the phone cannot be made. Other recent blackberry phones announced incude the BlackBerry Curve 8520 and the BlackBerry Tour 9630.

BlackBerry Storm 2 Review - The initial reaction

The initial reaction after watching the footage was really awesome. Though the device that appeared on the video does not have Wi Fi, but it is certain that BlackBerry Storm 2 will be featuring Wi Fi connection. Compared to the earlier version of the phone that is storm1, the hardware of BlackBerry Storm 2 seems to be much better. The concept of the phone is very preciously carried out and it definitely feels pleasant in the hand. The work of better engineering can be felt all around. The buttons are featured on the display itself; the battery door integration is better without any miss-placed hooks or speaker ports to clutch the door. The overall appearance of Storm 2 is quite compact.

The Screen of BlackBerry Storm 2

It is easy to use the click screen. We can expect that BlackBerry Storm 2 will bring a fast operating system that will run the applications much faster and smoother like a BlackBerry phone without touch screen feature. The technology that is called TruePress or SurePress (or something else, not sure) is definitely better. It gives smooth experience while typing and hence it is quite comfortable. Though the display is still downward moving (the physical movement can be felt while pushing down), it is to be seen whether Storm works in that aspect or not. The screen glass is quite hard, which adds to the compact feeling of the phone.

The Operating System of BlackBerry Storm 2

There is hardly any difference between blackberry-storm1 and BlackBerry Storm 2’s operating system. If there is any difference that is quite small, otherwise it is basically the same. The device featured in the video used a hardware that is the running version of OS 5.1 while the other storm devices used 5.0 version. Hence a small upgraded aspect is noticed in the hardware used in BlackBerry Storm 2. As far as visual aspects, application standpoints or basic usages are concerned, there is nothing like a major change with the new version of storm. BlackBerry Storm 2 will run smoother than its earlier versions because it will feature more device memory.

Goodness of BlackBerry in a new package

BlackBerry Storm 2 is coming with a new package. It is definitely a developed version of the original storm. With the arrival of the new version, it does not mean that the earlier version of the phone will not be available in the market. Those who are using storm 1 they have invested good amount of time on the handset like upgrading the operating system, learning the various functionalities of the keyboard, etc. The users who are already using the earlier version won’t really jump off to buy the latest one. However, those who want more memory they can really wait for the new device to arrive as it will make a lot of difference. One of the major drawbacks of the storm 1 is that it does not feel like a conventional BlackBerry. Storm 2 is expected to bring back those "BlackBerry" aspects back with the device. With different upgrades, the device is definitely going to be much improved from the earlier versions. Hence, it can be said that BlackBerry Storm 2 will bring the goodness of BlackBerry in a new package.

Bettering the limitations

If you have not checked out the blackberry-storm’s first version, here is a reminder for you. The original storm features uncommon and one of its kind design. Pressing down the keys of the device were excellently smooth and gives a real-like experience as by pressing the keys, the display screen goes down. For a touch screen phone this is an amazing experience. There are certain disadvantages of original blackberry-storm such as the lack of Wi Fi, poor camera, shaky software, fat body, etc. All these limitations are supposed to be recovered with BlackBerry Storm 2. As of now, it is a definite fact that Strom 2 will feature Wi Fi.

BlackBerry Storm 2 - Expected Features

The screen of the BlackBerry Storm 2 will be displaying a resolution of 360 x 480 resolution. The screen will appear fixed when the phone is off, but it can be resumed immediately after turning on the phone. There is a gap between the display and the frame of the original storm, which resulted in unwanted dust around the area. This gap is reduced in Storm 2. Some of the common specifications that BlackBerry Storm 2 is expected to feature are single band UMTS with HSDPA (2100MHz only) and quad bad GSM network along with EDGE. This will be CDMA 1xRTT/EVDO Rev. A device that will come up with Wi-Fi. Whether BlackBerry 9550 will run on OS 5.0 like the original version or it will use OS 5.1 is still not confirmed yet. Among the entertainment features, so far it is ascertained that Storm 2 will feature a 3.2 mega pixel camera.
