LG GX500 review

Expert Rating:
- 3 inches TFT capacitive display
- Wi-Fi
- microSD card slot – upto 16 GB
- No 3G
- Design is not up to the mark
The GX500 is not the first dual sim phone from the house of LG, two years back, LG KS660 was introduced with two-sim feature. Unfortunately, the phone was not a success because of poor battery performance and high price. It seems like, LG has learnt the lesson from its previous mistake and now it brings a new model LG GX500, which is expected to provide better performance. The battery that will power LG GX500 is 1500 mAh battery, which is better than the 950 mAh battery of KS660. Again the price is expected to be quite affordable, though there is no official disclosure of the price as yet.
The mobile phone is smooth to touch and it is made up of good plastic. With impressive build quality, different parts of the product fit perfectly without and backlash. There is uniformity between the gaps of the panels. The design seems to be average, in comparison to the KS660 version. The colour of the phone is black and it is expected to arrive in the second quarter of this year. Apart from the dual sim card feature, the handset is loaded with microUSB port, microSD™ card slot, WI-FI® 802.11b / Goa, and Bluetooth®. Web browser Opera Mini 5 and Russian-English dictionary are some of the vital applications of LG GX500. It also supports social networking like LG GS500 Cookie Plus.
LG GX500 review – network and connectivity
lg gx500 is a dual sim handset, which means it can support two networks at the same time. The network feature of a mobile phone is very important. No matter what brilliant features a handset might include, it will be always a downer if the network support is not up to the mark. GX500 is supportive of both quad band and tri band GSM networks. In case of the first Sim, the handset will support GSM 850/ 900/ 1800/ 1900, while in case of the second Sim, it supports GSM 900/ 1800/ 1900. Strangely, there is no 3G in the mobile phone, which is quite a letdown as even the small budgeted handsets are coming with 3G services.
The user of the mobile phone can avail GPRS and EDGE for browsing. The handset is supportive to Class 10 GPRS that provide a browsing speed of 32 – 48 kbps. Class 10 EDGE with 236.8 kbps speed is also available with the mobile phone. The best part of browsing and internet experience comes with the availability of WI-FI® 802.11b/g. Those who wish to enjoy the data transferring facility in the mobile phone, they can use wireless service with Bluetooth® v2.1 and wire-based service with microUSB v2.0.
GX500 – the look and the display
No matter what important features a phone is loaded with, the buyers initially judge a handset by its looks. If the phone is not attractive enough it fails to draw the initial impression of the buyer and the half the chances of converting a sale gets lost. GX500 is quite an attractive mobile phone, but it is definitely not as good as its processor. The touch screen covers the majority of the frontal part of the mobile phone. On top of the display, the logo of LG is featured while on the bottom, “Dual Sim” is written. The menu button finds its place at the bottom-center, which is bordered by the call key and the end key. Now, let’s take a look at the display feature of the handset. Lg gx500 features a TFT capacitive display, which is one of its biggest usp, compared to the low price tag. The screen size is 3 inches and it provides a resolution of 240 x 400 pixels and 256,000 colours. The mobile phone measures 108.9 x 53.4 x 13 mm and it weighs 118 grams only. Therefore, it is quite light and handy also reasonably attractive as well.
LG GX500 review – memory
One of the most important features of a mobile phone is memory, especially if the handset is a smart phone. GX500 by LG is a smart phone in the lower range, but still it needs a good memory support to provide its users with smooth experience. There are gaming features, music player, video playback and several other applications that require a good memory support. Lg gx500 is loaded with a 40 MB internal memory that can effectively store 1000 contacts and maintain call records. Definitely, this much of memory support is not enough. The handset, therefore, brings in microSD™ external memory option that can provide support up to 16 GB.
LG GX500 – The camera
The mobile phone seems to be developed for the average users and hence its features are neither extraordinary nor so simple. Among all the mentioned features, the most important one is probably the camera. The camera feature of a mobile phone has become the most vital aspect and many people purchase the mobile phone simply because of the camera features. Let’s see, what LG GX500 has to offer in terms of the camera feature. The handset comes with a 3.15 mega pixel camera that clicks images with a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels. The camera is integrated with auto focus. Video recording is possible with the camera and there is not provision for a secondary camera.
LG GX500 – music and videos
Entertainment is a vital part of any mobile handset. Apart from the camera, there are some attractive multimedia features in GX500 such as the music player and the video playback. The video playback is capable of playing MP4 and H.236 files while the music player can play eAAC+, WAV, and MP3 files. Music lovers can enjoy enhanced music features with Stereo FM radio with RDS. FM recording feature is also available in the handset.
