The LG Viewty phone should definitely be top of your priority list of phones to check out if you are looking for an iPhone, especially if you like the LG Prada. The Viewty is essentially a more swanky version of the LG Prada just without the designer label. The hottest products for 2007/2008 are touch-screen phones and LG proved this with LG Prada. The Viewty maintains all the best features and elements of the Prada, but is more advanced now as it includes a 5 mega-pixel camera, 3G, the video camera has been upgraded, the battery life is longer and holds more memory.
The touch-screen concept, for those who are unaware, is not to be mistaken for a touch-sensitive pad phone for example, the LG Chocolate or the Samsung U600. The Viewty is a touch-sensitive screen which means, the menus and icons appear on the screen and you touch the screen itself to activate the buttons. You’ll no if the button you have touched has worked as the Viewty has a subtle vibration response to verify this. The concept of this very easy to get to grips with. There are real buttons on this phone which are there to control, making and ending your calls, a jog wheel and on the side of the phone there are also buttons to control the music player, the camera and a button to control the volume. There is a stylus pen provided with the Viewty if you find using your finger is too slow on the interface. Text messaging for those who are a fast texter, you may find the touch-screen will slow you down a little, but to compensate for this the pure enjoyment of using the on screen menus makes up for it. T9 predictive text is supported. Hand-writing recognition is supported also which allows you to find an input method that is comfortable for you.
There are a number of features on this phone waiting for you to discover. The camera on the Viewty is rated at 5 mega-pixels has auto focus and a high quality Schneider-Kruezmach lens. There is also a Smart-Light feature that makes taking photo’s in the dark significantly clearer. The ISO function can be varied to ISO 800 for enhanced brightness in low lighting. Also for reducing camera shake, the Viewty has an integrated Image Stabiliser function, which is common in most digital cameras these days. Ok, the Viewty cannot be compared to some of the best camera phones such as Nokia or Sony Ericsson but still ranks in the top 10 camera phones on the market. Now, to the video camera. This camera is a fantastic piece of technology, it has a very high frame rate of up to 120 frames per second and allows slow motion filming, also it films at high resolutions of 320 x 240 pixels QVGA. There are video and picture editing functions built in to make the most of both cameras. Plus there is an added bonus, a second front facing phone enabling 3G video calling.
Now, to the music player. The Viewty supports almost every music format which include; MP3, AAC, AAC+, AAC++, WMA and a built FM radio. A stereo headset is supplied but there is optional use for mono or stereo Bluetooth® headphones if you so wish. There is 90Mbytes of built in memory in the Viewty which is very reasonable but with the purchase of a MicroSD™ memory card that will allow an additional 2Gbytes of memory.
We mentioned earlier that the Viewty is a 3G phone, but it is in fact a 3.5G. This means it supports extra fast 3G connections using HSDPA enabling downloaded speeds of up to 3.6Mbps. Bluetooth® connectivity is available and a USB port cable is also supplied allowing a USB connection. Browsing on the great World Wide Web is very much supported and sending and receiving emails. There is also a useful document viewer allowing the use of common file formats such as Word, Excel, Power-point and PDF.
There is one tiny gripe we have about this phone and that is the battery life. We are slightly baffled with the official manufactures battery life figures, as the huge touch-screen can seriously use up the battery power, but still the LG Viewty is better than the Prada but certainly not as worse than the iPhone when it comes to battery life. If you like the Viewty you may also want to have a look at the LG GC900 Viewty 2 which has just been announced as of April 2009.

I had one of these for over a year and have lost count of the number of times I threw it across the room in disgust! It seemed good at first, but rapidly became a pain in the arse. It's just too user-unfriendly. I eventually stamped on it and killed the microphone (I'll give it one thing - it's a tough little bugger!) I then "upgraded" to an LG GT500 which is very similar, but so much more user-friendly. I've not wanted to stomp on the GT500 yet!

LG customer care non-existant. Fault developed on usb port not covered by warranty as this was deemed accidental use. I have dealt with Sony customer care which is first class, but I would advise anyone not to buy LG products

I loved the Viewty at first, but after months of getting to know this phone I wouldn't recommend this phone to my worst enemy, let alone someone I liked!
The camera is 5mp - but the photo's are terrible! Having been used to a Sony Ericcson Cybershot, I am thoroughly let down by this!! Even my 3.2mp Cybershot took better pics!
I charge my battery to it's full power and it dies within 5 minutes of a phone call or 5 minutes (if I'm lucky) of video time!
DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!!

The wonders of touch-screen for your mobile phone! Takes twice as long to do anything, plus is a nightmare at times to navigate the various menus. Don't try using this when you're drunk or you'll throw it against the wall in disgust as your fat fingers hit the wrong key for the 43rd time and you've just sent the text to your mum instead of your girlfriend. Battery life is terrible, games are a no-no and figuring out how to do anything simple seems twice as difficult on this than any other phone I've ever used.
Rubbish.

I've had the viewty for 8 months, initially it seemed fine, but now it takes several minutes to launch, because of this the alarm doesn't work. The phone freezes during calls and when looking at photo's, the only way to resolve this is to disconnect battery and re boot waiting another 4-5 minutes. This is arguably the worst phone I have ever had. LG not interested, under guarantee but they just won't entertain that there is a problem. Don't buy one!!!!!!

I had the Nokia N95 for 6 months of a 12 month contract prior to getting this one and am happy to say that this knocks the N95 into the floor.
By far the best phone I have owned and easy and simple to use.
Battery holds up well and does not need charging every couple of hours like the N95.
If your looking for a good looking easy to use phone look no further than the Veiwty.

I have had the LG Viewty for 3 months, I think it’s a great phone and have no regrets buying it. The touch screen takes a bit of getting used. There is a setting for touchpad calibration so as soon as I set that up the phone worked like a dream, making texting easy with the keyboard and it is very quick. The camera on the Viewty is very good but bare in mind it is a camera phone so you need to spend a bit of time taking a pic to get a good one. I would like to confess I do not use the music player on the phone, I have an 180GB Ipod, unless you live in the dark ages this is prob the case for most people. I keep hearing people moaning about silly little things regarding the LG Viewty! It is a really good phone so change some of the features to suit you. It is intended as a camera phone not just something you make calls on.

I got my LG Viewty free from O2, they gave me a better price plan than my previous network could offer so now I pay less! Therefore, a good start before I have even received the phone. Before the Viewty, I had heavy O2 XDA Exec. I thought I would try the Viewty and I liked it straight away. It is not ideal but it is a cool phone and has it’s quirks that you learn to live with. I am having problems creating EMS messages with animations. I can receive them with no problems from my wife’s Sony Erricsson K800i, so I have contacted LG UK and am awaiting a response. The Viewty does have animations somewhere but there is no option on the menus to put into an SMS. My complaints: LG really need to include a lens cover and an integral stylus to make other the other LG accessories more obtainable in the UK. A few more games would be good too!!!!

Ive had this phone since last year and really love it!! I have always been into Sony Ericsson but could not resist the touch screen. The functions are really good and they have left out the gimmicky functions that most people like the sound off, but in reality will never use. I love the camera, plus the picture and video quality is top notch. The MP3 player is good for a phone, remember, it is not an ipod!! I don’t think the scrolling is as good as the ipod, but then your not getting charged a ridiculous line rental with this phone either

This is a top phone that I would highly recommend. Amazing features and the touch actually works and is very responsive. Plus the camera just makes the IPHONE or the new Samsung F700 look silly. One of the best mobiles on the market today, go and buy one!!

Had a gamble by replacing my SE K800i with the LG viewty. Two weeks have past, its got great video record/palyback, even looks good on a full screen TV. Shame the camera aint up to scratch, not as good as my previous K800i. Camera should have a lens cover, which when opened, turns on the camera, bit like the nokia n95.
