LG Versa VX9600 review
Just when you thought you had seen every possible incarnation a mobile phone could take, along comes a device that makes you wonder ‘how on earth did they come up with that idea?’. LG Versa VX 9600 is a prime example of this. Similar to the LG Dare, this is a touch-screen handset with an impressive 3” screen. This phone is a great choice for those who are not to sure about touch-screen handsets. If you are the kind of person who likes to press buttons, then the LG Versa comes with a detachable case containing a QWERTY keyboard, thus allowing the user to choose their preferred method of typing. This smartphone comes with a stylus within the package, but the touch screen is responsive and finger friendly, so it is not necessary to use it all the time. Even with the detachable case in place, this device is still quite compact but it is certainly more pocket friendly (especially where tight jeans are concerned) with out it. Unfortunately there is no specification list available as LG are keeping quiet about this phone and its release in the UK. However, here is what we do know.
LG Versa VX 9600 – Music Entertainment
With a internal memory of a reasonable 310MB, music, pictures and downloads can be stored easily. For those who need that bit extra, a MicroSD™ card slot is provided on the side of the handset, allowing the user to boost the phones storage capacity by up to 16GB. Most of the popular music formats are supported by the music player, along with an MP3 and FM radio. The music player is easy to use allowing the user to pick their songs from a drop down menu. A 2.5mm headphone jack affords the option of some privacy when listening to music through this device. If you don’t like to hear your music through headphones, the versa speakers allow good quality playback, which is enhanced if the device is placed face down on a surface.
LG Versa VX 9600 – Camera & Imaging
Although a full specification of this mobile phone is not yet available, we are able to inform you that the LG Versa will contain a 2 mega pixel camera with a LED flash. A dedicated camera key allows easy use of this function. The viewfinder makes full use of the 240 x 480 pixel 262K colour TFT LCD screen. Face detection and auto focus, along with a panorama mode, are some of the extra camera features included.
LG Versa VX 9600 – Internet & Connectivity
As mentioned above, a full specification for this phone is not yet available, but it can be safely assumed that it will contain Bluetooth® and browser applications that will allow connection to the internet. We do know that this device has the capability to open more than just one internet tab at a time. Up to three can be accessed allowing the user to switch between websites as easily as they could on a desktop computer.
LG Versa VX 9600 – Call Features & Messaging Services
The LG Versa VX9600 can be used to make and receive calls whilst both in and out of its protective case. The case has its own OLED monochrome screen that displays date, time, call info, battery and signal strength. It also has call send and end keys, allowing calls to be answered and ended without having to open the cover. Having the detachable case that houses the QWERTY keypad does not seem to adversely affect the quality of the call. Callers can be heard just as clearly. Speakerphone on this handset is said to be of good quality and easy to access. When using the speakerphone application it is not necessary to hold the handset too close so that your contact can hear you clearly. To dial a number on the phone, a full sized numeric touch screen appears when accessed by pressing the phone icon at the base of the main screen. Although this phone has a full display horizontal touch screen keypad, heavy texters will undoubtedly prefer the QWERTY keyboard attachment. With buttons slightly bigger than those of the Blackberry Bold, this clicky little keypad affords a tactile, positive typing experience.
LG Versa VX 9600 – Gaming & Applications
Although we are not enlightened as to which games will be available as part of the LG Versa package, we do know that there is talk of a removable gaming hand control that may be available to attach to the phone, in place of the keyboard. This could potentially allow a portable gaming experience along the lines of the Sony PSP or DS.
LG Versa VX 9600 – Summary
The LG Versa VX 9600 certainly is an innovative mobile phone. Being the first of its kind, it will be interesting to see how popular it becomes and if the concept of the clip-on/off keypad is a winner. I think the prospect of what potentially could follow this, by way of clip on accessories, is going to be worth watch out for. With the hint of a gaming style hand control on the horizon, we can only speculate what other possible applications will be created by the Brain-boxes at LG.
