Review: Motorola RIZR Z3

Motorola RIZR Z3
The Motorola RIZR Z3 is a slide style phone, its Motorola’s first slide design that is available in the UK. Its look resembles the MOTOKRZR , and other RAZR style phones. The dedicated camera key is located on the side and has a 5 way navigation key, on/off keys and soft keys are on the main body of the phone but most of the phone’s functions can still be accessed when the phone is slid closed. To expose the full keypad is easy, you just slide it to open. This is the same style of keypad of Motorola’s other super-slim phones. The blue backlighting makes the keypad look very chic when in use. The RIZR is not one of the worlds thinnest slider phones at 16mm, unlike the Samsung D900 (13mm) alas is still fairly slim and looks great.
The RIZR is possibly much easier to use than Motorola’s older phones as it features the latest version of Motorola’s user interface. The RIZR does hold its own against all other phones within this price range even though its not one of highest spec mobiles available. The camera has 2 mega-pixel power and is just as good as any other phone created by Motorola, but still doesn’t come close to some of the top of the range phones that are on the market by other manufacturers. The phone can record video footage and has a MPEG4 video playback feature in the media player. With a TFT screen, 262,000 colours and a great resolution of 176 x 220 pixels the RIZR is still lagging behind in the screen status such as Samsung, Sony Ericsson and Nokia. But still is a good screen with great quality.
The RIZR has support for Bluetooth wireless and a USB port. The built in memory is limited to only 16 Mbytes, this can be upgraded to 2Gbytes with a MicroSD card and the battery life is also rather good.
On the whole this is a great looking mobile, but is trailing behind its competitors in most aspects. Motorola are extending the attraction of the RIZR phone range which is great to see by adding a slide design phone to their range. This can be a great phone if you like the Motorola design and specifications are not a priority with what you are wanting in a phone. It cannot match the very best from Samsung, Sony Ericsson or Nokia, but still is a good handset. A word of caution before purchasing, there have been a number of users complain about the phone breaking or freezing. This isn’t the most robust of phones but if you’re willing to take the chance it is extremely good value for money as the price has dropped significantly.
