Nokia 5030 XpressRadio review

The latest Nokia handset to hit the Xpress range is the Nokia 5030 XpressRadio. As you can probably guess from the name it is a Radio based handset. It achieves this by having a dedicated radio keys which allow you to use the radio and select stations, would have been nice if it was a DAB radio though. The 5030 XpressRadio weighs 82 grams and is 107.7mm x 44.6mm x 14.5 mm deep. The nokia handset features a 1.8 inch TFT screen which uses 65 million colours to ensure the colour is bright and sharp. The 5030 screen resolution is 128 x 160 pixels. The screen is nothing really to shout about but this is a low end handset and the screen is fine and works well with the features offered by the XpressRadio. The rechargeable battery no board this handset will allow you to talk for 10 hours or give you 524 hours on standby. If listening to the radio the battery will last 24 hours which comparing to recent high end mobile phones this is fairly impressive and reminds me of handset 5/6 years ago that had a decent battery life because they were not so packed full of gadgets. The 5030 XpressRadio has 64 MB of memory on board.
As we have mentioned this is a radio based handset and has an FM radio on board. The radio can also be used as an alarm clock if you would prefer to walk up to Chris Moyles shouting in your ear rather than an annoying ring tone. Polyphonic ringtones are support and come on board with the Nokia 5030 XpressRadio. If you prefer to listen to your favourite song as a ring tone then you can assign MP3 tracks as your ringtone. The Nokia 5030 allows you to send text messages and can store up to 250 messages in the in box. It is also possible to save your contacts and phone numbers within the on board memory and will allow you to store up to 500 contacts. It works on a Dual Band (GSM 900 and 1900) meaning it should work in the US and internationally but it is work checking the frequencies supported in a country before traveling if you need to have your XpressRadio working. Unfortunately there is no internet support within this Nokia but like we have said it is a low end phone and the price will reflect this. The Nokia 5030 allows you to add full screen and animated wallpapers to brighten up the screen when not in use.
If you enjoy playing games then you will be pleased to know the nokia 5030 comes with Snake Xenzia, beach rally and Sudoku. If you get bored of these or complete them then you can always download more. The 5030 XpressRadio also features a stopwatch, Countdown timer, calculator and convertor which is extremely handy when traveling to work out exactly what you are paying for goods in another currency. Although to do this you will need to know the exchange rate, probably would setting up the application before you travel.
Well that’s about it, manages to sum up the Nokia 5030 XpressRadio in less than 600 words! We have seen that this handset is not particularly impressive but in the same breath we are not going to run it down as it does exactly what it says on the tin! It never pretended to be a flash smartphone. We are guessing this phone has been mainly designed for the developing world but are expecting it in the UK on PAYG. If you love listening to your radio then this is probably the phone for you. If you like to do anything else with your mobile phone then it certainly isn’t the phone for you.

As with all Nokias it is a very reliable hanset, and the plus feature in this is the radio without having to plug a headset in, call quality is reasonable for such a cheap phone , the only points what let this phone down is the keypad is so hard and cheap, and be aware that to take the rear cover of to insert the sim or battery could take your finger nail of, but for 12.50 from orange website it was a barain not to me missed, and for a kids phone or as i wanted it just for the radio at work and the plus of a spare phone its ideal,
