Nokia 6730 Classic review

Expert Rating:
- No Wi-Fi
The Nokia 6730 Classic is the latest smartphone from Nokia, which they have just released, as of May 2009. This handset will be avilalbe from June 2009 exclusively to Vodafone. Other recent nokia phones include the Nokia 6600i and the Nokia E52. As you would expect the 6730 Classic is running on the S60 operating system. Having this software means you can easily download new applications from the web that you require. There is a decent range of mid range features on the 6730. As far as nokia smartphones go the 6730 is fairly slim line at only 12.6mm thick and weighing 83 grams. The dimensions from the front are 46mm x 112mm. There is a 2.2 inch TFT screen which uses 16 million colours to ensure the Symbian S60 3rd edition user interface is crystal clear. The Nokia 6730 is available in a white or black out casing. The resolution of the 6730 screen is 240 x 320 pixels. The standard Li-Ion battery will provide up to 500 hours of standby on either 2G or 3G. Talktime in the 6730 is 10 hours on 2G but only 4 hours if you are using a 3G network, which applies if you are in the UK.
Nokia 6730 Review - Camera
The main camera on the Nokia 6730 is 3.15 mega pixels and will take pictures up to 2048 x 1536 pixels. To ensure you do not get blurred photos Nokia have included autofocus and LED flash to brighten up those dull photos. It is also possible to film video with the primary camera up to 15 frames per second. Video at the rate should be watchable but wont be the next blockbuster as we have seem camera phones filming at 30 frames per second. If you are after DVD quality video then take a look at the Nokia N97 which films at 30 fps. If you like to use video calling then make use of the second VGA camera specifically designed for this purpose.
Nokia 6730 Classic Review - Gaming & Applications
One of the main features on the Nokia 6730 is the A-GPS support and built-in GPS receiver. With the 6730 getting lost and being out of touch with friends and family will no longer be a problem with the mobile navigation on this handset. With Nokia maps the navigation offers turn by turn routing helping both drivers and pedestrians get to their destination. You can search for your destination by Address, company or even a persons name thanks to access being provided to a point of interest database and yellow pages data.
You can connect to the internet on the 6730 via 3G but at the time of writing this review WI-FI® was not to Nokia press release, so we are presuming it does not have it. Both xHTML and HTML web browsing is supported meaning the majority of site you view on your PC should work fine on the 6730, if they don’t, well the site owners need to sort this, its not a fault of the handset.
The Nokia 6730 Classic has a built-in FM radio with RDS support so you can find out what you our listening too. If you prefer to listen to your own music then use the on board media player which supports MP3, MP4, eAAC+ and WMA (Windows Media Audio). There is only 48 MB of memory built in which won’t store much music but you can upgrade the memory by using a MicroSD™ (TransFlash) card. A 1GB card is included with this handset but this can be upgraded to 8GB for about 25 pounds. For some users having games on there handset is a must, if this is you then you will be pleased to here Java™ games are included and you can download more if the on board games begin to bore you. There is also a 2.5 mm jack for plugging in headphones and a speaker phone if you like everyone else to here your conversation!
Nokia 6730 Review - Connectivity
The Nokia 6730 is a quad-band phone supporting GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 on a 2G network and HSDPA 2100 / 900 on a 3G network. To use 3G the network in your country of residences needs to support it, no problem if you are based in the UK. Having access to 3G/HSDPA gives you super fast access to the internet. Connecting to other devices is easy via Bluetooth® as long as you are connecting to other Bluetooth® compatible devices or if you prefer to use a cable make use of the MicroUSB port for super fast data fast data transfer. The infrared port has been left off the 6730 and it looks as if infrared will soon become a thing of the past with mobile phones.
Nokia 6730 Review – Summary
The Nokia 6730 is a decent mid range smartphone and we fairly sure it will be a success. Obviously there are better Nokia phone coming out like the Nokia N97 but you will pay the price of having a empty wallet. Although no pricing is available for the 6730 we are expecting it to be a lot cheaper than high end smart phones. The only thorn in the side of this phone is no Wi-Fi, Nokia are selling the fact that the Nokia 6730 is internet ready but with no WI-FI® you can connect to internet hotspots.
