Review: Nokia N73 Black

Nokia N73 Black

The Nokia N73 is an updated version of the Nokia N70 Smart-phone. The N73 is slimmer and is lighter than the N70 and is also on the lightest Smart-phones available. The screen display is large with an incredible resolution of 240 x 320 pixels & 262,000 colours. The keypad is the usual style with the box style design. The keys are a little on the small side and the joystick is a little tricky to use.

Nokia have made vast improvements not only to their display screen but to their camera too. The camera is of 3.2 mega-pixels using Carl Zeiss optics and CMOS sensor which is the same as N70 used to make making a compelling imaging gadget. The camera features a 20x digital zoom, a built in flash, macro mode and a selection of setting with a photo image editor. Ok, it may not perform anywhere near as well as some of the best phones from Sony Ericsson, but it does however surpass it’s previous successor and is a very good camera. Video recording is also available. The frame-rate is of 15 frames per second and videos can be recorded in either MPEG4 or 3GP formats. There is a also a second inward facing VGA camera for the purpose of video calling.

The music player on the N73 is a great tool that supports an ample variety of music formats including; MP3, WMA, AAC and a built in FM radio that Visual Radio Functionality. The music player offers support for play-lists and an equalizer allowing the sound quality to be adjusted. A stereo headset is included with the phone.

The built in memory has been extended to 42 Mbytes and the use of a MiniSD card is also available. This will allow plenty of storage for your music tracks and recorded videos. Connectivity via Bluetooth® 2.0, USB 2.0 and Infrared is supported. The battery life is pretty good for a 3G phone.

The biggest complaint about the N73 is that it freezes and shuts down mostly when receiving a call. A phone that doesn’t work just simply isn’t acceptable even if it is really good when it does work. As another alternative you may want to consider the SE K800i but it isn’t a Symbian phone. If you are wanting Nokia but have now been put off by the N-series, you may like the 6300 it is much more user friendly and definitely more reliable even though it isn’t a Smart-phone, but still maintains all the functions of the N73.
