The Samsung D900 is a serious piece of technology. We haven’t seen a phone so good since 2004 when the Samsung D500 hit the market.
This is one of the slimmest slide phones on the market, only recently beaten by the Samsung U600. The D900 has a slick slide motion, well done to Samsung for perfecting this function. The keypad is small, but functional making the phone very easy to use, encased in a fantastic magnesium coating to finish off. You can’t beat the use of a conventional keypad, unlike the SamsungE900 and the LG Chocolate while they may look cool with their touch sensitive, the D900 surpasses them. At just 13mm thin Samsung have beaten the Motorola RAZR in the thinness competition.
The Samsung D900 has a 3 mega-pixel camera with auto-focus, so is currently the best camera in virtually any other phone, apart from the SE K810i and N95. The video camera is also of high quality and records in MPEG4 format. The display and clarity on the D900 is remarkable and very finely detailed. What is amazing, and why we take our hats off to Samsung, is they have fitted their best ever camera in their slimmest slide phone. There have been some reviewers believe that videos recorded on this phone cannot be viewed in full screen, but they are mistaken, as you can. To switch to full screen mode just press 1.
Now to the music player. The formats supported on this fantastic phone are – MP3, ACC, ACC+ and e-AAC, with 3D virtual surround sound with a digital power amplifier making your tunes sound incredible. The D900 comes with a stereo headset or if you prefer you can use a wireless Bluetooth® headset. The one downside to the music format is there is no built in radio. The music player is simple to use and can have a play-list of up to 30 tracks. The built in memory on this phone is 70 Mbytes which is great but if you wish to increase the memory you can but a Micro SD card seriously turning the D900 into a fantastic MP3 player. A 512 Mbyte card may cost around £15.
The Samsung D900 has all the typical features that you would expect. Including the messaging, speaker-phone, emailing, internet availability, Java gaming, MP3 ring-tones and the list goes on as you can see from the full spec listed. There are a few added extra features of course consisting of, off-line mode for use when listening to music whilst on a plane, a TV-Out connection for viewing recorded images directly on a TV screen, document viewer for viewing MS office files and EDGE for speedy internet access. The connection is via Bluetooth® or USB. The menu design is very smart featuring a black background and the interface is very pleasant and welcoming. The battery life is quite good depending how long the features are used. The only grumble, and it is with all Samsungs, is you can’t use an MP3 for the SMS alert sound but vibrate and ring simultaneously can be selected which is a great positive.
To sum up 2006 has been a fantastic year for mobile phones and the Samsung D900 is a great candidate for phone of the year. Samsungs new U600 is even slimmer but the G600 isn’t quite so but does feature a 5 mega-pixel camera making it one outstanding phone. Now, the D900i is practically the same as the D900 but features an FM radio, but does not have the document viewer. But we at Mobilefonereviews are loving the Samsung D900 phone.

I WANT ONE!! Nice phone, never let me down.
Battery cover slides off in my pocket on rare occasion. Would've liked to put my own mp3 on for when I get sms.
Magnesium matt casing is brilliant! Almost no scratches, and still works... I've dropped this thing a lot.
I love the slide design, perfect width, perfect height when open, perfect when closed for the pocket.
Would've also like to see and FM player but taking videos in even low light settings like a bar or club come out great.

I WANT ONE!! I have had my Samsung D900 a good while and it has never let me down! The camera is great and the fact that it has a matt casing on it saves it getting mashed up whe its dropped.
I am however looking a buying a new phone and the Sony Ericsson C905 does seem really appealing with its 8.1 meg camera.
we'll se eh, ill probably stay loyal to Samsung as they havent let me down yet!
