Samsung F490 – Massive Touch Screen
The Samsung F490 is one stylish looking phone which features a large touch screen with touch controls and is similar in design to the Samsung P520 Giorgio Armani handset. The screen is a TFT screen and is a gigantic 3.2 inches displaying up to 262K colours with 240 x 432 pixels making for a superbly clear and colourful display screen. The call key and end call key are situated just below the touch screen making them easy to locate and use. The user can operate the touch screen with a simple tap, flick or drag of a finger making for a whole new touch screen experience. The dimensions of the Samsung F490 are 115mm x 53.5mm x 11.8mm and weighs 102g making it a nice sized phone to hold in the hand giving it a real solid feel. On a single full charge the user should expect to be able to use up to a massive 6hrs of talk time and have up to 220hrs of stand by time.
Samsung F490 Music Player & Camera
The built in music player of the Samsung F490 supports most music formats which include; MP3, AAC, AAC+, e-AAC+ and WMA formats. The F490 has a microphone incorporated into the handset allowing the user to record them self with the voice recorder talking or singing along to the music. The user can really customise their Samsung F490 with their ring-tone. The F490 comes with a choice of MP3 and 72 polyphonic ring-tones providing the user with a great choice of mobile ringing tones. The user can also choose from a range of screensavers and wallpapers to really compliment the very large 3.2 inch display screen to make it a real eye-catcher. The built in internal memory of the F490 130 mega-bytes which isn’t great but the phone has support for the use of a MicroSD™ memory card allowing the user to increase the memory and recruit more storage space for their music files and downloads.
The integrated camera of the Samsung F490 is 5 mega-pixels which is the same as the Samsung F480 Tocco and the Samsung G600 making it one of the top of the range cameras available on the market to date. It features a 3x digital zoom and 3x optical zoom which permits the user to really home in on their chosen subject when capturing a quick snap shot, auto focus an LED flash and a brightness option. The use can choose from a selection of photo quality settings which comprises super Fine, Fine, Normal and Economic along with shot modes which consists of Normal Shot, Self Shot, Mosaic, Multi Shot and a Timer Shot giving the user the option of how they would like to take a photograph and the outcome of their photo.
The Samsung F490 also features a video recording facility allowing the user to record moving video footage in the same way a camcorder works. It features 16:9 wide screen viewing which is a fantastic aspect to the phone allowing the user watch back what they have recorded instantly. The video plays in WMV, MPEG4, H263 and H264 video formats. The user can also have fun with the video calling feature with other compatible users with this capability making for a great personal video calling experience.
Samsung F490 – Internet & Connectivity
The Samsung F490 works on an XHTML and WAP 2.0 web browser providing the user with a fantastic World Wide Web internet browsing experience so keeping in touch and up to date with all the latest news, information and entertainment can be the every day norm whilst the hustle and bustle of life keeps moving. The EDGE technology will provide the user with speedy data transfers while the HSDPA technology provides a high speed broadband connectivity so hanging around to connect to the internet. Connecting to other compatible devices is also possible and straightforward as the handset uses the Bluetooth and USB technologies making for great compatible connections. The F490 woks on a Tri band network which covers GSM 900/1800/1900 allowing the user enjoy the roaming facility depending on the user network provider.
Samsung F490 – Messaging & Applications
The Samsung F490 features all the usual messaging services that we have come to expect from a mobile phone these days which include; SMS, MMS (multi-media messaging), emailing and predictive texting with the addition of EMS (enhanced messaging). The emailing function provides the user with a great emailing service allowing to keep up to speed with the workload as it provides IMAP4, POP3 and SMTP email formats even while away from the office.
The Samsung F490 comes equipped with embedded Java games so the user can them self occupied and amused keeping boredom at bay. The user has the choice to download more games if they so wish suiting more to their own personal individual gaming taste.
The F490 has a fantastic selection of applications that can and will help the user with every day tasks that may arise making life less complex, which is just how we like it. Some of the applications available are as follows; Google search, document viewer, converter, to do list, calculator and a calendar naming just a few of what the Samsung F490 offers its consumers.
The Samsung F490 is a stunning looking mobile phone that offers so many features and excellent functions that any user would find a joy to own. This is a fantastic mobile phone the only gripe we have is that is doesn’t present a built FM stereo radio which most new mobile phones do come equipped with. Other than that we at Mobilefonereviews.co.uk love this phone. Nice one Samsung!
