Coming soon to join the Samsung Beat Music range is the Samsung M6710 Beat Disc. Other phones in this range include the Samsung M3200 Beat s, the Samsung M3510 Beat and the Samsung M7600 Beat DJ. A slightly lower spec version of the Samsung M7600 Beat DJ, this device is aimed to be a more affordable, mid-range handset offering similar looks and features to the Beat DJ. That being said, this stylish 3G capable handset has more than enough features and capabilities to stand out from the crowd and make a name for itself. A compact, black slide phone with a curved lower edge, this device measures less than 15mm deep by 51mm wide and 106.8 mm high and weighs in at 99.7grams, battery included. A 2.6 inch TFT touch screen provides impressive views of this mobile phones features and applications. Supported by 240 x 400 pixels, up to 16 million colours allow a clear crisp user experience. A built in accelerometer enables auto screen rotation, ideal for viewing documents, images and browsing the web. Sliding the handset open reveals its traditional looking 12 key alpha – numeric keypad. The keypad is also curved on the lower edge. When closed, the curved lower portion below the touch screen contains a semi-circular, wheel style control. This control works as a navigation key to access, personalise and control the Samsung M6710 Beat Discs many built in features, including the impressive music system.

Being one of its biggest selling points, the music applications built in to this phone offers quality, advanced and easy to use audio entertainment. With technology licensed from Bang and Olufsen, playback through its amplifier and speaker is assured to be amazing. MP3, AAC and WMA are among the digital formats supported by this handsets music player. Also included is an FM radio with RDS, along with the ability to store up to 20 pre-set radio stations. The touch screen and semi-circular navigation key give the user clear, responsive and easy use of the music controls. If downloads are your thing, this phone has a storage capacity of 80 Megabytes, with the option to increase it by up to 16 GB with the use of a MicroSD™ card. A 3.5mm head phone jack is included, which would be the minimum expected from a music centred handset.

Sporting an integrated 3 mega pixel camera, the M6710 also comes with auto focus and an in-built flash. Features and modes to give the user more control over the settings and options make for a good camera and video imaging package. A second camera located on the screen side of the phone allows video calling with contacts that have a mobile phone with the same capabilities. Video recording and playback are featured on this handset giving the user an all round media package.

Using the Samsung M6710 Beat Disc to surf the web is made smooth and fast thanks to the HSDPA mobile broadband support. With a HSDPA speed availability of up to 7.2 Mbps, the M6710 Beat offers a faster connection than some higher end smartphones. Once browsing, the auto screen rotation means the user can achieve greater web viewing capabilities and a more pleasurable internet experience. Stereo Bluetooth, version 2.1, is also supported enabling the user to transfer data and listen to their favourite tunes through a compatible wireless headset. Version 2.1 should allow easier pairing of Bluetooth® devices and consumes less power from the battery whilst the handset feature is turned on to allow ready connection to a second device. EDGE technology is included on the Samsung M6710 allowing for faster transfer of data between devices and a micro USB port enables connection to a desktop or laptop for further information transfers. GPRS is also included but unfortunately the is no sign of WiFi.

The Samsung M6710 Beat Disc offers GSM quad band along side the 3G network coverage. As mentioned above, this handset allows video calling between compatible devices. The speaker phone facility works well with this particular application but can also be used when making and receiving traditional phone calls. Call alerts include vibration and ringtones are available in polyphonic, MP3 and WAV formats. The M6710’s phone book will store up to 1000 contacts details and call logs keep a record of the last 30 calls dialled, last 30 calls missed and last 30 calls received. Accessories also include a calendar, clock with alarm function, calculator and To Do List amongst others. This phone comes with a standard Li-Ion 880 mAh battery. Stand-by and Talk times are yet to be confirmed.

Samsung M6710 Beat Disc – Messaging Services & Gaming

As expected, messaging is available through this handset via SMS, MMS and Email. Although this is a touch screen phone, no mention is made as to whether a touch screen keypad will be accessible. The traditional style flat key keypad is therefore the only means of creating text messages on this mobile phone. Games are included within this phone, however what they will be is not yet known. The ability to download games of your choice is available to enhance the entertainment experience, if you haven’t already filled up the memory space with music.

The Samsung M6710 Beat Discs specification and design are not the most innovative or advanced by any means, but it does offer quite a lot of functions and applications, all housed in an inoffensive, slightly quirky black handset. With its built in amplifier and speakers and the technology from Bang and Olufsen, this device was always going to be about the music. However, this mobile phone gives you the feeling that you have not had to compromise too much on the other features to get the best sound. A good phone that will appeal to a wide variety of people and expected to be in the more affordable area of the market, I think Samsung have created themselves a little gem.
