The Samsung S5230 is the second touch screen phone to be announced by Samsung and is going to be relatively similar to the S5600, but the S5230 does have some better features such as a soft touch QWERTY keyboard but unfortunately no 3G. Samsungs S5230 has a 3inch WQVGA full touch screen with 256k colours and 240 x 400 pixel resolutions for clear and bright viewing, it has mobile widgets to make the phone easy and enjoyable to use as well as Touchwhiz. The S5230 is a slim and compact phone available in a sleek black colour casing, the phones measurements are 104mm x 53mm x 11.9 mm and the phone weighs 92 grams so it is a nice phone to handle. We estimate the Samsung S5230 could have up to 33 days standby time and an estimated 10 hrs talk time but that is yet to be confirmed. You can store all your photos and downloads on the 50 megabytes of internal memory or get up to 8 gigabytes with a MicroSD™ memory card.
Samsung tocco Lite – Internet & Connectivity
Browse the internet on your S5230 as the phone supports WAP 2.0, HTML and xHTML web browsing technology and with GPRS and EDGE you can get fast connection and data transfers so you can find out the latest gossip or chat on facebook on the go. There is also access to Google search and Google’s Gmail® service on the Samsung S5230 so you can get your work emails or find the website you want with ease. You can use the USB cable or Bluetooth® 2.1 with A2DP to connect to other devices such as printers or laptops as long as they are compatible. Use your S5230 in most parts of the world as the phone works on a quad-band network supporting GSM850/900/1800/1900.
Samsung S5230 – Camera & Imaging
As on the S5600 the Samsung Tocco Lite S5230 has a 3.15 megapixel camera built in and takes photos in up to a maximum of 2048 x 1536 pixels. Some of the features on the S5230’s camera are digital zoom, LED flash and smile detection which is when the camera detects a smile it will automatically take a photo so you should always have nice smiling faces in your pictures. There is also a video record function with 320 x 240 pixels and records in 15 fps (frames per second) so you can take video footage of friends or family on your Samsung S5230.
Samsung S5230 Review – Messaging and Applications
Sending a message is a quick and easy way to stay in touch when you don’t have time for a phone call, some of the messaging services on the S5230 are SMS, MMS and Email which supports IMAP, POP3 and SMTP so you can send pictures messages or emails to work.
Some of the application tools available on the Samsung Tocco Lite are an accelerometer sensor so the screen rotates when you turn the phone, handwriting recognition and PIM (personal information management) which has features such as alarm, To-Do List, notes and converter. There is also a speaker phone for hands free calling.
Samsung S5230 – Music & Gaming
Listen to your favourite music on your phone as the S5230 has a built-in music player with music formats such as MP3, WMA, and ACC. Download your favourite band or song onto your S5230 to keep you entertained on long journeys or at the gym. You can also listen to local or national radio stations as the Samsung S5230 has a built-in RDS FM radio. There is a great feature on the music player which is the Shazam® find music service that helps you identify tunes that are incomplete or you don’t know the name of. Have the latest tunes as your ringtones as the S5230 has polyphonic, MP3 and WAV ring tones. Play games on your Samsung S5230 as the phone supports java 2.0 and downloadable games.
Samsung S5230 Tocco Lite Review – Summary
It is a shame the S5230 does not have 3G unlike the S5600 which has but it does have some good multi-media features and some great application tools. The S5230 is aimed at the low end of the market and we don’t know all the specs at present so we could be pleasantly surprised the S5230 is going to be released in April 2009 a month before the S5600 and we are not sure on the cost yet but it is said it may be cheaper than the S5230.

Its a good phone all in all. It has a great toch experience, the screens good in fact everything seems great except for a few minor glitches. One would be its antennae, it doesnt seem to catch network properly inside. Secondly you cant access your messages when you are on a call. thirdly whenever playing music on the phone, one needs to unlock it to change the song. It wouldve been great had there been external buttons for controlling the mp3 player. Lastly its not that much of a problem but yeah my phone shows sms memory full at 170 approx sms's when in fact the company claims it can store some 200 or more. T
These are maybe the only problems i faced i my phone and if fixed this phone is certainly worth or maybe worth more than its price.

Why is there no way of downloading photographs to Windows Vista ? No driver software available on the disc.

This phone is for the no-fuss user, who enjoys a good phone for everyday life... The lack of 3G means you are not able to surf the net in high speed or receive/make video calls, but if you hardly use internet/video call on your phone today, then you don´t need it really!
Thus, this phone is a great companion - calling, texting, photo and music are all good quality in this phone, easy and accessable, the widgets are a lot like the Windows Vista sidebar Gadgets, adjustable, simple and functional.
On the triple panel interface, I have mine set to "work, general, leisure" - meaning I have my schedule, appointments, world time on "work", "general" is left pretty empty allowing for a clean "desk" and "leisure" has music player, post-it, alarm and sms-icon.
Easy, smart, functional - especially since the touch screen react really well!
Texting is outstanding on the onscreen Qwerty keyboard, I now take great joy in texting, compared to my former SE910w numeric keypad.
Music sound even better on this phone compared to SonyEricsson's Walkman phones, atleast with the standard earplugs - no small achievement.
My version even includes WiFi (bought in asia as 5233W), thus giving me a better option than 3G, since I used to get a heavy billing from surfing on 3G, compared to FREE WiFi!!!
All in all, being a picky consumer, I am very satisfied with this phone, giving it a big 4*, where 3G and a AMOLED screen would have gotten it a 5* rating instead.
So, if you are looking for a good, hassle-free touch-screen phone with all the basics plus some cool features, great design and good coverage/battery time, AND you don't need internet surfing at high speed, then look no further: this is the best deal, when it comes to quality/features/price out there! :)
