The Samsung S8000 Jet is a new addition to Samsung mobile phone range and features the new 3D Cubic navigation user interface. The new Samsung I8000 Omnia2 will also feature the new 3D Cubic user interface. The Samsung Jet is a 3G enabled handset which is 109.9 x 53.5 x 11.9mm in dimensions and weighs in at 93.5 grams, very light compared to high end smart phones. On the front of the Samsung S8000 there is a massive 3.1 inch AMOLED screen using 16 million colours on a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. This quality screen should make a great base for using the TouchWiz version 2.0 user interface. If you prefer to use the interface in landscape mode you can make use of the Accelerometer sensor which auto-rotates the screen depending whether you are holding it in landscape or portrait position. We currently know the Samsung Jet will have a standard Li-Ion battery but no news is available re3garding talk time. There is a fairly healthy 2 GB of memory on board the Samsung Jet, this can also be expanded to a massive 16 GB by using a MicroSD™ card. These are available from most electronic outlets fore between 20 and 30 pounds.
Samsung S8000 Jet – Camera
The 5 megapixel camera on the Samsung S8000 Jet is fairly impressive and runs at 2592 x 1944 resolutions. To ensure your photos are bright, especially when taken in dimly lite environments like nightclubs Samsung have included a LED flash on the S8000 Jet. You can also make use of the auto focus feature making sure your pictures come out clear and focus on the correct objects. So you do not forget where the picture was taken you can use geo-tagging which utilizes the on board GPS receiver and tags a GPS location to the photo. The built-in 5 MP camera on the Samsung Jet will also allow you to film video footage at 30 frames per second. If you prefer to see the person you are talking to then there is a video call camera specifically designed for undertaking video calls.
Samsung S8000 Jet Review – Connectivity & Tools
The Samsung S8000 Jet lets you connect to other devices in an array of different ways. Both 2G and 3G networks are supported. 3G support is using HSDPA which is an enhanced third generation network protocol giving you even faster access to the internet, in fact up to 3.6 Mbps. Connecting to wireless local area networks can help you decrease the amount of data you download through your mobile phone bill, this can be achieved by finding and connecting to a hotspot using the on board WI-FI® feature. For connecting to other devices which are close by then the best methods are via Bluetooth® if you want to do it wirelessly or USB if you prefer to have a wire. USB is version 2.0 which means your data transfer should be even faster, a lot quicker than Bluetooth® so useful if the files are very large.
As you would expect from any mobile phone these days you can send and receive text and multimedia messages aswell as send and receive emails. Push email is supported which in a nutshell means you could link your Samsung Jet up to your googlemail or hotmail account and have the emails those account receive delivered directly to the handset. As long as your networks allows you to you can access the internet and browse HTML/xHTML websites directly on the mobile phone. This is very useful if you need to find out information about train times for example while on the move. If you are on the move then you may appreciate the built-in FM radio which also supports RDS meaning you can finds out information about the station or DJ you are currently listening too. The Built-in media player will pretty much any file format you can possibly think off. For music files you can choose from MP3/WMA/AAC formats and for video the Samsung S8000 will play DivX/XviD/H.263/H.264/MPEG4 formats. If you are like me and always forgetting what appointments you have made then make sure you add them to the organizer. There are a few Java™ games included on the Samsung Jet but if you manage to complete these, then you can always download more from the internet, but check costs before you do to avoid getting stung.
Samsung S8000 Jet Review – Summary
Overall we are very impressed with the Samsung S8000 Jet, Samsung will be pleased to hear this as they went to great lengths in there pre-release promotions to create a frenzy about this handset. The TouchWiz user interface with 3D Cubic navigation is very impressive, just hope the handsets memory can cope with it and the S8000 Jet does not grind to a halt.

Samsung Jet. Died completely a couple of months after buying it. Sent it to repair centre which took approxiamtely 8 weeks. Could have been less as they didn't bother ringing me when it was back in the shop. I like the phone on the whole, it does everything I need it to do and i havn't crashed in once. It looks pretty too. But now my major complaint is that the 3.5mm jack is damaged and causing sound to cut out in my left ear whenever the cable moves (i.e in my pocket it moves when I walk...which is when I listen to my music). The primary reason I bought this model was for the 3.5mm jack. I think the angle of the casing where the socket is allows some play in the connection and this leads to damage of the delicate internal connections. Basically a design flaw. I will take it back to the shop to get fixed, but I feel its probably best to use the samsung propriatory connection.
Dissapointed.

I have had my S8000 for just under 8 weeks. On th whole I am quite happy with it. The camera takes excellent landscape, portrait and, very surprisingly, good sharp macro shots (many a happy hour has been spent photographing insects and taking close-ups of flowers)
The handset is very easy to use and doesn't require the multiple button presses that my previous Samsung (600i) required to send a txt message. The menu is generally intuitive, requiring me to look at the handbook only a couple of times.
The only thing I am very disappointed with is the 3.5mm jack. I am a comm's engineer and think it is a big mistake to try to equip such a small item with a 3.5mm jack socket. The phone is just not strong enough to cope with even the weight of the cable pulling on the plug. The headphones are already constantly cutting out in one ear or the other, so I shall be taking it back to the shop on Monday. Maybe a shorter jack plug body would reduce the leverage on the socket mounting.....

I got a jet at christmas. I had it for about two weeks and took my daughter to school in the rain with it in my coat pocket.
When I got home the screen had gone black with a green haze around it.
I took it to a Samsung repair centre and was told it had water damage and that there was nothing they could do about it.
Beware! dont use your phone in the rain, mine is useless now, money wasted!

I upgraded from a dismal sony X1, (which drove my Girlfriend mad)I picked this samsung and on first impressions it was pretty good, until after 1 day the people on the recieving end of a call couldnt hear her. Vodafone replaced it and now after 2 weeks of playing it is really turning out to be a real cracker.I downloaded some pictures from the phone to my Apple Mac and opened them in Photoshop CS3 and they only needed a small adjustment to bring out the highlights a bit, and printed superb up to A4. the screen is pure quality, indoors. Outside its a little difficult to see clearly but ok. My girlfriend find it very easy to use but then she is a bit of a gadget freak (strange for a girl LOL)video playback is ace, better than W995,the music playback is good, but not as good as my W995 sony. The WIFI connects instantly and is very stable, web connection through the phone is nearly as good, all in all I think Samsung have a winner.
