Recently, Sony Ericsson announced two latest handsets in the range of its “GreenHeart” segment. These two mobile phones are the Sony Ericsson Hazel GreenHeart and the Sony Ericsson Elm GreenHeart. The mobile phone company has taken a great initiative to make environment-friendly handsets in this range and its target is to reduce the harmful emissions of carbon dioxide. Sony Ericsson Hazel is a slider device that will take care of the nature-friendly mission. It will be available with minimised packaging, parts with low power consumption and recycled plastic. The handset also includes Bluetooth® Noise Shield Handsfree VH700 for immaculate experience of voice quality. The users of the phone will also be provided with a Greenheart personal handsfree HPM-60J as a perfect 'green' accessory. Hazel has taken the green concept without compromising on the functionality and fun. This is a super-cool looking slider phone with some excellent features such as 5 mega pixel camera with auto focus, turn by turn navigation with AGPS, Google search, Google maps, easy to access social networks like Facebook, Twitter and MySpace. Though the phone is announced already, but the consumers have to wait until the second quarter of 2010 for its release.

Sony Ericsson Hazel – Design and Display

The Sony Ericsson Hazel looks simple yet stylish. This is a slider phone with 2.6 inches TFT touch screen display. On top of the screen, the logo of Sony Ericsson is encrypted, while at the bottom of the screen, main functional keys are placed. These keys include selection key, exit/Back key, ‘Ok’ key and the call and end buttons. To access the numeric keypad, the user needs to slide open the phone. On the back portion of the phone, you will again find the logo of Sony Ericsson along with the symbol in a vertical manner. The speaker and the camera lens are also on the back. Charger point is on the left side of the phone, while USB port and music control keys are on the right side.

This splash resistant handset will be available in two colours, which are Superior Black and Passionate Rouge. The overall dimension of the phone is 102 x 49.5 x 16 mm, and it weighs 120 grams, but it is designed in such a manner that it fits perfectly on the palm, which makes it comfortable to handle. The screen provides the resolution of 240 x 320 pixels and 16 million colours.

Sony Ericsson Hazel – Network and Connectivity

Hazel works with 2G and 3G with equal efficiency. Being a 3G enabled phone, the users can enjoy faster access to internet and speedy connectivity. For 2G network, the mobile phone supports GSM 850/ 900/ 1800/ 1900 and for 3G it supports HSDPA 900/ 2100. Apart from 3G, Wi Fi also enables faster internet access and browsing experience. In addition, there is Class 10 GPRS with 32 to 48 kbps speed and Class 10 EDGE with 236.8 kbps. The handset allows both USB and wireless data transfer facilities. It features microUSB v2.0 for USB transfer and Bluetooth® v2.1 for wireless transfer.

Sony Ericsson Hazel Review – Memory

Sony Ericsson is now launching all its new mobile phones with good memory back up. It is an extremely useful aspect all other features are directly or indirectly involved with the capacity of the memory. Most of the best Sony Ericsson phones feature immaculate music options. Think about a phone that comes with excellent music tools, but the user cannot store enough music files because of insufficient memory. Same thin can happen with videos, games and images. Hence, having a good memory back is a must-to-have feature of a mobile phone. Hazel lives up to this quite well with 280 MB of internal memory and 16 GB of expandable memory. For expanding memory, the phone features a card slot for microSD™ (TransFlash) like the one in sony-ericsson-xperia-x-10.

SE Hazel Review – Battery

Hazel is a standard mobile phone and its battery backup must also be standard. It is powered by standard Li-Po battery that can provide up to 4 hours of talk time and up to 450 hours running capacity while being on the standby mode, for 3G. In case of 2G network, the stand by time is up to 430 hours and talk time is up to 10 hours. The main aim of Hazel is to serve the purpose to being friendly to nature. Therefore, battery charging must consume less power. The Low power consumption charger of EP300 GreenHeart is provided with the handset for this purpose.

Sony Ericsson Hazel – the Camera

Being a part of GreenHeart series, the Sony Ericsson Hazel did not compromise on any aspect. It is evident from the above mentioned features and also from the high-end camera that it comes with. The SE Hazel is equipped with a 5 mega pixel camera that offers the resolution of 2560 x 1920 pixels along with LED flash and auto focus. Both LED flash and auto focus ensures that the camera can take immaculate snaps even when the light conditions are not good enough. The features of the snapper are not over yet. Like a good-quality digital camera, the camera of hazel includes superior features like smile detection and face detection as well. There is a secondary camera for video recording as well.

SE Hazel – Music and Video

Music plays an integral part in the mobile phones and when the brand is Sony Ericsson, the expectation is sure to be high. The music aspect of the phone comes with numerous features such as SensMe, TrackID, PlayNow, Mega Bass™ and Album art. The music player can play different files such as MP3/eAAC+ and WAV. With Bluetooth, the users can make use of wireless hands-free headphones and headsets. Stereo FM radio with RDS is an additional benefit to the music feature of the handset. The mobile phone also includes excellent media player that can play media files like MP4, H.263 and H.264.

From the specifications and features, it seems that Sony Ericsson has yet another winner in the making in the form of Hazel. We have to wait and see what impact it creates after the release in 2010 Q2.
