Review: Sony Ericsson K810i

Sony Ericsson K810i
Sony Ericsson K810i

The Sony Ericsson K810i Cyber-shot is practically the same as the massively popular Sony Ericsson K800i. But there a couple of obvious differences. The K810i is fair bit thinner measuring just 17mm whereas the K800i measured 22mm, and the buttons are newly designed. It’s great that the K810i is lighter and slimmer as they were biggest criticisms of the K800i. The keypad doesn’t really seem to have improved as the keys buttons are small and circular and fairly spaced similar to the old design.

Despite the cosmetic alterations there hasn’t really been any changes since the release of the Sony Ericsson K800i. But the K810i still wins hands down in the competition of mobile phones. The built in camera is currently the best camera phone on the market. It’s 3.2 meg-pixels, 16x digital zoom with auto-focus and a powerful xenon flash with high quality optics which is all what you would expect from Sony Ericsson. There is a brand feature called the ‘Photo fix’. This amends the the brightness, light balance and contrast of the image. The camera also features a BestPic function which allows 9 photos to be taken in a second, this then gives you the option to choose the best one for you to keep. The video camera is also of exceptional quality, it records with QVGA resolution and a video editor so that you can edit all your recordings.

The screen resolution is 320 x 240 pixels with 262k colours, which is pretty standard for a high spec phone, but the display is excellent.

The K810i does have a fantastic built in music player that supports most music formats, including, MP3, AAC, AAC+, WMA and an RDS FM radio. The audio is good and even more so when using the headphones that are included with the phone, or as an alternative you can use a Bluetooth wireless stereo headset.

The K810i supports video calling as it is a 3G phone and high download speed of up to 384-kbps, but there is no EDGE capability. The built in memory is a decent 64 Mbytes but you will want to increase this with the purchase of a Memory stick Micro card. The battery life is brilliant considering it’s a 3G phone.

To summarize, the K810i is a marvellous phone. It is slimmer and lighter than your other option of the K800i. They are both excellent camera phones with functions that are almost identical, it’s just their external decor that are different. If you are on a budget then we would recommend you choose the Sony Ericsson K800i, but if you are fashion conscious then do go for the K810i. The new Sony Ericsson K850i now has an amazing 5 mega-pixel camera available.
