Sony Ericsson W880i Black review

Sony Ericsson W880i Black review

Well, well, well, what do we have here! Sony Ericsson putting their best selling phone Walkman phone into a stainless casing, have made it shrink in size and given it a 1Gbyte memory card. The W880i is a gorgeous looking phone and is the lightest and slimmest 3G phone on the market ion the UK. It measures 9.4mm and weighs 71g. Despite its size it is amazingly crammed with features and functions. We think it is definitely in the running to be the best Walkman phone thus far, and we are certain it will be a winner.

The W880i is fairly large but is quite flat in size. The keypad has been designed moderately well. There is a 5-way scroll key on the W880i instead of the awkward joy-stick that has been featured on other phones. The phone is available in black or silver either colour looks stunning and gives the phone a feel of quality.

The W880i is a 3G phone which benefits from fast downloading and 3G video calling. The built in camera is 2mega-pixels and does feature a digital zoom with a video recording facility. The camera isn’t as good as the K800i as it doesn’t feature a flash but is great for off the cuff use. The TFT display screen is of high quality wit 262k colours and 240 x 320 pixels.

Now lets get down to the music player as it the W880i’s biggest and best feature. Accessing the music the music can be done in a click. It will play, rewind, fast forward, equalise and create your play-lists. To get the best sound quality from stereo headset, but for that added “ boom” sound the phone also features Mega-Bass. The phone does have support for Bluetooth® stereo headphones a good pair is supplied though with the phone. The W880i does come supplied with 1 Gbyte memory card allowing the storage for up to 250 songs. There also is a Play-Now download feature which allows you to buy and download MP3 ring-tones from the phone.

The connection to Bluetooth, USB and Fast Port are all supported. The 3G function lets you access the internet and supports RSS feeds and picture blogging. With this feature the internet will always be on.

The W880i does lack a few things. Firstly, the screen is slightly on the small side, secondly, there’s no flash on the camera and thirdly, there is no built in FM radio which may disappoint some users. If you were after the FM radio in a phone then we would recommend the SE W810i or the SE W850i.

Ok, the W880i maybe short of a few things but it does have so much crammed into a small phone plus it looks good too unlike some other Walkman phones. While the W880i maybe quite brick-like it is an attractive brick and one that some people would be proud of.
