Sony Ericsson Yendo review

Sony Ericsson Yendo review

Sony Ericsson has recently made an announcement of its Google Android™ handset called the Yendo. This is a Walkman phone that promises to provide immaculate music listening experience to the users. The first full touch screen Walkman device comes with an excellent combination of music, communication and social networking on one single platform.

Sony Ericsson started the trend of four corner touch user interface with its two very popular mobile phones – Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 mini and XPERIA X10 mini PRO and the saga continues with the Yendo. The users are just required to provide minimum touch to access the top features of the handset. Being an iconic walkman-specific handset is not the only advantage of the SE Yendo, the users can bring out their individuality by customizing the device as per their varied requirements and moods.

The handset will provide the users with a wide range of choices in terms of selecting the colour. The makers have decided to offer the phone with vibrant colours that will match diverse tastes and personalities. Yendo will appear in blue, black, orange, green, purple, red, silver, and pink. The users can bring a lot of fun to there personality by getting this handset, which is expected to hit the market within the third quarter of 2010.

Sony Ericsson Yendo – Network and connectivity

Yendo with Walkman by Sony Ericsson is supportive of the quad band GSM network 850/ 900/ 1800/ 1900. It supports GPRS and EDGE but the power of 3G and Wi FI is missing in the handset. This could be the major drawback of Yendo as even the average phones are being released with 3G/ Wi Fi support at present. However, it seems that the makers have given more priority on the Walkman factor and left aside the high-speed connectivity attributes. However, the device integrates social network applications, and it is to be seen how those applications perform in the absence of Wi Fi and 3G. As far as the operating system is concerned, Yendo will run on Google Android™ 2.1 (Eclair) and 156 MHz ARM 946 processor will power the device.

Sony Ericsson Yendo Review – the display

In terms of looks, Sony Ericsson Yendo appears as a solid edgy touch screen device. On top of the display screen, the logo of Sony Ericsson is included and on the bottom- corner position there is a logo of walkman-specific phones of the manufacturer. As mentioned earlier, there is a wide range of colour choices for the customers so that they can buy a handset that matches with their preference and personality. The overall dimension of the handset is 93.5 x 52 x 15.5 mm and it measures 81 grams. Therefore, it is evident that the Yendo is a light- weight and easy to carry mobile phone. Now, let’s discuss the display features of the handset. The TFT resistive touch screen will catch your attention at the very first look. The size of the display screen is 2.6 inches and it provides resolution of 240 x 320 pixels and boasts 256,000 colours.

Sony Ericsson Yendo – the Walkman features

Yendo, the first touch – walkman mobile by Sony Ericsson has a lot to offer. This is the first full touch screen Walkman handset by the company that includes powerful music control features. The users can enjoy the best quality of music at their fingertips. They need to just provide a single touch (Touch TrackID) to access the name of the song that they want to play. In addition to that, there is MediaGo that allows the users to transfer music files to the handset directly from the computer. The Walkman listening experience gets doubled when the handset is paired with 3.5 mm stereo jack. In addition to that, there is stereo FM radio with RDS to enjoy an extended choice of listening music.

Sony Ericsson Yendo Review – the multimedia features

Multimedia features are the most vital aspects to the mobile phones. One of the most important multimedia features of Sony Ericsson Yendo is music. The other major multimedia features include camera and video. If you expect that handset to bring an exceptional camera like its excellent music features, then you are sure to be disappointed. The handset just includes an average camera feature with 2 mega pixel snapper that gives a resolution of 1600 x 1200 pixels. There is no secondary camera for video calling and the users can record videos with the same camera. However, there is an integrated video player in the handset that is capable of playing different media files. In terms of the multimedia side, the SE Yendo is a bit on a lower side, except for the excellent walkman player.

SE Yendo – memory

As the Yendo is a walkman specific phone, the first thing that users will rush to is storing as many songs as possible. Therefore, it is essential that the device is loaded with attractive storage capacity and the Sony Ericsson Yendo does not disappoint in that aspect. The handset includes microSD™ card slot that can be used to place microSD™ memory cards to expand the memory status. Yendo can support a maximum storage space of 16 GB. In terms of internal memory, the handset includes 5 MB support that is capable of storing up to two thousand phone book entries.

Sony Ericsson Yendo is excellent touch success to the music features, and it is the biggest USP of the handset. However, the absence of 3G, Wi-Fi and high mega pixel camera indicates that the device is targeted to the users with restricted budget, particularly the students.
