T Mobile G2 Touch review

T Mobile G2 Touch review

All the enthusiasts of mobile gadgets have been waiting with baited breath for the arrival of G2 Touch. T-Mobile released this handset in the month of July 2009. Much before its release, there has been quite a buzz surrounding this handset and people were eager to know whether the company will achieve success in the world of Android. The device looks terrifically attractive and its looks can even match to the level of iPhone. Considering the overall design and style, we must say that G2 Touch is a highly developed product. Like its earlier versions –G1 and MyTouch, this one too leaves a trademark style in terms of buttons, screen size, resolution, technology, weight, etc. The chin or the base of the phone features the hardware buttons that includes menu, home, back, end and dedicated search options. The trackball in this zone makes it a perfect Android device. G2 Touch has taken a step forward from its predecessors. It doesn’t look like a plastic made like the earlier ones, rather it feels quite solid. The soft touch material used in the casing and the new oleophobic screen are simply awesome. The device features TFT capacitive touch screen display with 65,000 colours. The screen size is 3.2 inches and the picture resolution on screen is 320 x 480 pixels. The overall weight of the phone is 135 grams and its dimension is 112 mm by 56.2 mm by 14.4 mm.

T-Mobile G2 Touch - Internal Attributes

This phone is the glamour version of HTC Magic as far as the internal attributes are concerned. Thus, the user of T-mobile G2 Touch gets the same Qualcomm 528MHz CPU, 512MB ROM and the same 288MB of RAM. Apart from that, there are Wi Fi, Bluetooth, quad band HSPA cell chip and GPS. Hence, it is quite similar to HTC Magic apart from the new gorgeous coating on screen, improved camera and industrial design.

T-Mobile G2 Touch Review - Camera Features

This is definitely one of the major attractions of T-mobile G2 Touch. The device brings 5 mega pixel camera on board and not the conventional 3 mega pixels like the earlier versions. The camera gives real treat to the users. Though the quality of imaging might fall short when compared with the professional camcorders, but it is definitely better than the competitor devices of this standard. Here the trackball is used for snapping shots and zooming and the colours are not as bright as we would have liked, but we definitely cannot expect everything with this phone. However, the shutter speeds and processing are much improved and hence snapping photos is quite faster than several other Android devices.

In spite of excellent show up from the still image section, the video recording features of the phone is not that impressive. The maximum resolution is just 352 x 288 and even at that resolution it provides obvious hitches and pauses in the videos. Do not expect a great quality of video with G2 Touch. The device features a video player where you can store or download videos of different file formats such as MPEG-4, H.263, H.264 and WMV9.

T-Mobile G2 Touch Review - Music Features

The music player application of G2 Touch is quite simple. There are options like shuffle and repeat modes along with the option to create play list do that you can sort out your music easily according to the name of the song, album, artists, composer, genre, etc. The quality of sound via headphones is nice. However, there is a 3.5 mm audio port where you can connect your own headphone and enjoy superior quality of sound. The stereo set of the phone is compatible with Bluetooth® headphones also. The music player can play diverse music files such as MP3, AAC+, WAV and WMA9.

T-Mobile G2 Touch Review - The life of battery

The battery life of T-Mobile G2 Touch is really impressive. It impressed us big time with its staying power on extensive usage of EDGE and Wi Fi. Not only that, even 3G running is accommodated effortlessly by the battery life of the phone. The battery of the phone is much better than the earlier versions of G1 and Magic. In fact, it can be compared with the iPhone 3GS. On the 2G mode, the battery can provide stand by time up to 440 hours and talk time up to 8 hours, whereas, on the 3G mode, the stand by time is up to 750 hours and talk time is up to 7 hours. The device uses Li-lon 1350 mAh battery.

T-Mobile G2 Touch - The User Interface

By far the most attractive feature of the T-Mobile G2 Touch is the customization of the user interface. The twisted user interface mainly permits the users to put a wide range of useful 'widgets' on the Home screen of the phone in order to get easy access to the most used applications and functions. The Home screen of the phone expands across seven screens (ahead of conventional three). Thus, the users can place more and more items on the Home screen, which is completely widget based. The device has shaped a variety of eye-catching and practical widgets that are not divergent to their TouchFLO 3D panes for Windows Mobile. The majority widgets come with different sorts of variations in terms of layout size to make ways for the diverse taste and space restraints.

T-Mobile G2 Touch - QWERTY Keyboard

T-mobile G2 Touch is definitely a fantastic handset that impresses in most of the aspects. This touch screen device with full QWERTY keypad is simply awesome. The size of the keys is perfect and they are placed on appropriate gaps. Hence, typing on the keypad is simple and smooth.

Rating: Big T Mobile Fan rated the T Mobile G2 Touch mobile phone 5 stars  I WANT ONE!! 5 star rating

I've had this handset for about 7 weeks now, and my general impression is that this phone is really cool.
The biggest downside is the lack of a flash on the camera, but if you're not a big camera user then this won't be much of a problem for you at all.
There are lots of funky things that I love about this phone, it's sliding 7 home screens, the way you can control the MP3 player without unlocking the phone, the multiple Market Apps that can be downloaded and then easily uninstalled to suite the users needs. I love the fact that I can have my favourite photo's on my home screens and move all of the icons around to suit my ease of access on the apps that I use the most.
The battery life which I had read some negative comments on before I picked it up, seems to be increasing all the time, and it will now go for just over 2 days without a recharge, assumming I don't use the WI-FI too heavily.
I also heard negative things about the sensativity of the touch screen, but I have had no problems with it at all. I'm generally very satisfied.
The reason that I picked this phone was that the gadget freak in me really wanted the I-Phone, but I wasn't prepared to move to O2 or pay the high price for the handset. I know I am not alone with that issue. After my 7 weeks with the G2 Touch, I feel perfectly satisfied with the handset and the capabilities that it gives me. Well Done HTC, I'm now a convert.
