The Taiwanese mobile phone manufacturing company has announced its latest offering, which is named as the HTC Wildfire. The unit is a bit different from its predecessors. Look wise, the mobile phone bears close resemblance with HTC Desire and it includes the similar processor that powers HTC Hero. The display screen of the handset is better than HTC Tattoo and it is definitely a better choice for all those users that are looking for a touch screen smart phone on a tight budget. HTC Wildfire is definitely going to add on the style statement of the user with its similar Desire-like look and HTC HD2 style metal band across the back.
HTC Wildfire – the look and the display
Let’s continue with the look of the mobile phone and check out its display features. HTC Wildfire looks stylish and trendy from every angle. As mentioned above, the handset bears great resemblance with its big brother Desire, but the size of Wildfire is smaller. In fact, it gives more comfortable experience to hold than the bigger Desire. The size is comfortable enough to fit in the pocket of the user. If you like to go by the figures, then check out its measurement, which is 106.8 x 60.4 x 12 mm. The entire front panel of the device is covered with the touch screen display, which enhances the appeal even further. At the bottom portion of the touch screen, there are touch sensitive major functioning keys such as the home key, menu key, back key and search key. The logo of HTC is inscribed on the top of the display and also at the back. It is definitely cute and comfortable.
HTC Wildfire includes capacitive touch screen that measures 3.2 inches. The major highlights of the display include HTC sense UI, multi touch input, accelerometer sensor for UI auto rotate, proximity sensor for auto turn off, and optical trackpad.
HTC Wildfire – the operating system
The mobile phone is powered by the Android™ 2.1 operating system. However, when the new operating system will be released by Google, the Wildfire can also get upgrade to 2.2 Froyo. The latest version of Sense is also running in the device and hence it is obvious that the users of Wildfire can enjoy many features of Desire and Legend such as animated wallpapers, friend stream and better Exchange functionality.
HTC Wildfire Review – sharing applications
If you get the HTC Wildfire then you can enjoy downloading and sharing applications. The mobile phone comes loaded with an App sharing tool that allows the users to share application with the friends. There is a dedicated icon on the device that provides direct access to the applications. You have to just select the applications that you want to share and share it via text, email or social networks. A link to the Android™ Market will be displayed to the recipients and they can use that link to download the applications.
HTC Wildfire Review – network and connectivity
It is crucial for any mobile phone to have the adequate support of network and HTC Wildfire is not different either. It is capable of providing support to the users of both 2G and 3G network. The 2G network users will get the support of the quad band GSM service 850/ 900/ 1800/ 1900 and dual band HSDPA 900/ 2100.
If you need to avail high speed browsing facility, then you can attain that with the 7.2 mbps HSDPA and Wi-Fi® 802.11 b/g. In addition to that, there are Class 10 GPRS that provides speed of 32 – 48 kbps and Class 10 EDGE with 236.8 kbps speed. For transferring data to/from other compatible devices, you can use microUSB v2.0 and Bluetooth® v2.1.
HTC Wildfire – the memory
Internal memory capacity of Wildfire by HTC is inclusive of 384 MB RAM and 512 MB ROM. This much of memory is capable of storing practically unlimited phone book entries and fields and the call records. To use the mobile phone to its full potential the storage capacity needs to be increased and it can be done by expanding memory by using the microSD™ card. The memory of HTC Wildfire can be expanded up to 32 GB. The mobile phone includes good collection of applications and hence proper memory back up is a must.
HTC Wildfire Review – the multimedia
To start with the multimedia features, let’s check out the camera option of HTC Wildfire. Wildfire is loaded with a 5 mega pixel camera that is capable of taking some good quality shots. The camera includes excellent features like LED flash, auto focus, geo tagging and smile detection. The resolution of the camera is 2592 x 1944 pixels and video recording is possible with this camera.
The music lovers can enjoy playing MP3/AAC+/WAV/WMA9 on the music player and also listen to the stereo FM with RDS. The mobile phone can also play video files as it integrates MP4/H.263/H.264/WMV9 player.
Entertainment does not stop here. HTC Wildfire is loaded with top notch social media applications such as Facebook™, Twitter™ and Flickr and hence you can update your profiles with images, videos, etc.
It seems that HTC has a winner in the making with Wildfire and it is definitely going to hit the bull’s eye when it releases. The mobile phone is expected to hit the market in the third quarter of 2010 and it is definitely going to add up to the available options for the budget phone. With such attractive features and gorgeous looks combined with affordable price, HTC Wildfire makes good impression.

A marvel of technology if you want social networks, internet and messages at your fingertips. The touch screen is just that very touchy and so was I after a while. How anyone imagines that the tiny qwerty keyboard could possibly work is completely beyond me, so sending texts I found virtually impossible and I dont have particularly large hands. So I gave up. I found mine rang but then would not allow me to answer, possibly a fault, but extremely annoying at this moment in my life when my partner lies critically ill in hospital. It is a sexy toy not really a phone, its probably a must have for the show offs, but if you want a simple and reliable way of phoning and texting friends stay well clear of this yuppy nightmare.

I was very impressed with this handset when it arrived. It surprises you with it's coolness and it will no doubt be a delight to receive and a good step-up from your previous phone if that was from before 2010. Plus points are that:
1) It is quite cool and fun to use
2) It has a decent size screen for a phone of its size and weight
3) It is quite compact compared to most other phones in its class
4) It seems pretty stable and reliable - no problems yet and a good all-rounder for the general sort of phone features.
The drawbacks are quite silly ones that could have so easily been avoided by the manufacturer/designer, and you do get used to them (thankfully), but they are very frustrating so it's worth taking note of this before you receive one of these:
1) It's very easy to text people by mistake while you're still writing the text, as the send button is so close to the part of the screen that you may need to touch. This is partly becasue...
2) The on-screen keyboard and the active areas of the screen for some applications are very small for real hands and it is hard to press the button you need, and it is also very easy to accidentally press a button that is close to where you are trying to press. This takes a bit of getting used to. Just watch out for the silly 'send' button as that's caught me out a few times. It can take much longer to text sometimes.
3) There is no hang-up button, just an area of the screen that you can press to end call. Actually you need to hold it for a second - otherwise you find that you haven't hung-up and you're still phoning someone. The button hides if you press anything else, so it's far too difficult to end a call in a hurry.
4) And probably my pet hate is that if you have more than one number for someone but you don't remember which one is best to use just from seeing the first 2 or 3 digits, then it is a pain to text them. It doesn't use the default number that you have the set, and you can't see the contact details when on message mode to jog your memory. This is a real draw-back, so you have to go into your contacts and sent a message that way for some people. You have the same problem with calling - yes calling - but they have been clever enough to hide a little button on the screen for this feature and if you press that it shows you more info and you can quickly decide which number to use. I got round this by adding a 'contacts' short-cut icon to my desktop (which you can totally customise) and that serves as a good way to quickly text people who have 2 or more mobiles.
5) A final point is that the screen is very sensitive and it just goes to an application that you don't want sometimes without even realising
So it just scrapes 4 stars as a rating, but could so easily get 5 if it were just a bit more user friendly in terms of calling and texting.

Phone stopped working after 2 weeks. Sent back to HTC and the said it was moisture damage. The phone had not been in subjected to any moisture so it was obviously not fit for purpose. HTC customer support was pathetic. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PHONE

Spent ages comparing smart phones and finally decided this was the one for me. Spent 3 days playing with it and while I loved the features I found the touch screen just too sensitive most of the time. More annoying sometimes not sensitive enough. When setting up the phone contacts late at night whilst passing my finger really lightly across entry it would take as a command and make the call. I would then try frantically to end the call and it wouldn't work. Had to own up to a number of these annoying calls. It seems that when your hands become hot and heaven forbid a bit sticky its virtually unusable. Scrolling though applications etc has the same effect and after a time it becomes very frustrating. Go and wash your hands preferably in cold water and its fine. What happens in the Summer when your out and its hot and sticky with nowhere to cool your hands down. Whilst my heart wanted to keep the phone my head ruled and it went back. I am now concerned that all touch screens are the same and whether its just me. However be warned. No other issues with the phone. For all the criticism the screen gets I thought it was very good.
