A super star of a mobile phone is about the hit the market with a bang in the first quarter of 2011. It is LG Optimus 2X, which is touted as the first handset to include the dual core technology with the host of various attractive features. "Dual-core technology is the next leap forward in mobile technology so this is no small achievement to be the first to offer a smart phone utilizing this technology," said Dr. Jong-seok Park, CEO and President of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. If the inclusion of 4 inch screen, 8 mega pixel camera, 1080p video recording capacity, and the dual core processor is anything to go by, LG is going to strike it big next year. We will bring more details about the above mentioned features in the later portions of the review. The handset is in the line of LG’s successful Optimus range. The features of the phone are quite similar to another much talked-about device Samsung Nexus S, but the dual core processor factor gives Optimus 2X a definite edge.
Apart from the processor, another major plus point of the phone is its operating system. The previous handset in this range was LG Optimus 7, which is the partner of the Windows Phone 7 operating system. LG Optimus 2X runs on the 2.2 version of Android™ and it is upgradable to v2.3 as well. This implies that when the latest version of Android™ hit the market, Optimus 2X will offer upgrades to its users. The network carriers are eyeing for the release of the handset and it is for sure that there will be some exciting mobile phone deals with the latest Optimus by LG.
LG Optimus 2X – Dual Core Benefits
Optimus 2X is supposedly the first handset to include the dual core technology in the smart phones. It is expected that other manufacturers such as Samsung, RIM and Nokia are also working on their versions to release in 2011. The LG handset combines the power of Nvidia’s new 1 GHz dual-core Tegra2 processor and Android™ operating system that will allow 1080p video recording and playback. Accessibility of features and applications will be smarter and faster with the inclusion of this technology. Being the first in the lot, it creates an excitement among the users who are eager to know how it works on various platforms and what experience it provides. Therefore, the initial business of the handset is expected to be good.
LG Optimus 2X Review – Network and Connectivity
No matter what sort of high-end features are present in a mobile phone, the basic requirement is always to establish good communication. This is always a vital feature and hence we stress on the network and connectivity options of the mobile phones. Optimus 2X is supportive of both 2G and 3G networks. The users of the 2G network will get the support of the quad band GSM 850/ 900/ 1800/ 1900; while the 3G users will get access to HSDPA. As far as the data support is concerned, it is supportive of both GPRS and EDGE. High speed browsing is possible due to the presence of 3G HSDPA and Wi-Fi® 802.11 b/g/n. to transfer files to/from other devices, you can use cable based transfer with microUSB v2.0 and wireless transfer with Bluetooth® v2.1.
LG Optimus 2X – Display
The mobile phone looks sleek and stylish from any angle. All-touch screen frontal part makes it look stunning and its black body adds to the sophistication factor of the design. It is a bar shapped handset with a slight curve around the edges. You can find the logo of the mobile phone on the top and the back side of the handset. There are touch sensitive keys at the bottom of the display such as menu, home, back, and search. On the back you will find the camera lens, while the USB port and the charging point are placed on the side panels.
If you are expecting something like Super AMOLED display like the Google Nexus S, then you will be disappointed. Optimus 2X features a TFT capacitive touch screen of 4 inches, which provides a visibility of 16 million colours and 480 x 800 pixels resolution. The display features are standard with the inclusion of accelerometer sensor for UI auto rotate, proximity sensor for auto turn off, touch sensitive controls and Gyro sensor. The display features are decent and it looks attractive as well.
LG Optimus 2X – Memory and Multimedia
Memory is one of the most vital features for any mobile phone, especially for the smart phones. Optimus 2X features enough internal memory to load practically unlimited entries and fields of phonebook and call records. However, the memory can be externally increased by using the microSD™ card. There is a microSD™ card slot in the mobile phone that allows expansion of the storage capacity up to 32 GB.
If you buy LG Optimus 2X, you will hardly get with it because of its attractive range of multimedia features. The biggest highlight among the multimedia features include its 8 mega pixel camera. The snapper is not just high on its mega pixel count, it also includes high-end features such as 3264 x 2448 pixels resolution, LED flash and auto focus. The snapper is capable of taking video shots at 1080p, which implies that you can play back high quality videos as well. There is secondary camera of 1.3 mega pixels for video calling. In addition to the camera and the video recording features, the multimedia options of LG Optimus 2X also include MP3/ WAV/ WMA/ and eAAC+ files, and video playback that can stream MP4/ H.264/ H.263/ WMV files.
The features are attractive and the expectation is high. LG Optimus 2X is truly one of the most anticipated mobile phones of 2011.
