HTC Radar review

The HTC Radar has hit the stores recently with a Windows 7.5 OS following religiously the footsteps of its much-loved predecessor, htc-titan. Having a sleek unibody, HD video-recording facilities and a 5 MP camera, the phone is well keeping pace with the Google Android™ phones. The Taiwanese manufacturers are running like anything to bring some differences in their recently released smartphones. While ‘Windows Phone’ the term itself is turning obsolete with days passing, HTC is brave enough to set afloat this Windows 7.5 enabled mobile phone in the market. A beautifully crafted device from a single metal weighing a mighty 4.832 ounce, the phone is likely to disappoint some of the buyers with a mere 8GB in-built storage. Still there are some outstanding features that will provoke you to buy this Smartphone. Well, wise to know the price in advance. Its £330 while some companies offering some brilliant HTC Radar deals on contract.

Hardware

The look of the HTC Radar is sure to appeal to you. Though for many, the silver-and-white body of the phone is a bit disappointing, but the makers definitely put their best aesthetic sense to wrap up the major parts of the phone with an extremely elegant unibody chassis made of aluminum. From the front, it looks much alike the htc-trophy but it excels in featuring cleaner lines with thinner and longer buttons and bezels. The most interesting feature of the HTC is the removable cover at the edge which enables to user to access the SIM Card slot. Yes, like most other HTC Phones, it also lacks the memory expandability which means you have to use that 8GB preloaded (6.54 GB in actual) in-built storage.

This mobile phone comes with a QUALCOMM MSM8255 SoC (with a 1GHz Scorpion CPU and an Adreno 205 GPU) hence it is less-appealing for the web savvy people out there. Though the RAM is restrained to 512 MB only, the phone will facilitate you to browse the web with multiple tabs kept open while background music is playing. The radar can also boast of these extremely intelligent apps built-in. An S-LCD is coupled up well to proffer superb image quality. Everything is snappy in appearance. Text is incisive, colours are vibrant enough and viewing angles are just excellent. The display unit is measured 3.8 inches long and alike the htc-titan, it also features a 800 x 480 WVGA resolution.

Though the gizmo comes heavier than other smartphones of its size, the HTC Radar is an extremely easy-to-use handset and quite solid comparing to its competitors like Samsung Omnia W or the mozart. The volume rocker is as big as desired and all the three physical buttons at the bottom are logically placed. As a Windows 7.5 platform, the HTC Radar deal has already become a sensation among the mobile lovers. A 3.5 mm stereo jack that comes coupled with a micro USB 2.o port covers the left bottom end.

When it comes to voice quality, HTC Radar comes just above excellent. The battery life is also amazingly prolonged so you don’t need to charge the handset for hours clicking pictures, emailing, surfing the net and making voice calls as well throughout the period. After 18 hours of usage, we found that the battery still had 35% charge to run. The video rundown test resulted in an 8-hour long stint which is impressive enough.

The HTC Radar happens to be the first Windows phone with HSPA+ compatibility. It also supports faux-G on 850MHz spectrum. The international version of the phone actually supports GSM, GPRS, EDGE and HSPA/ACDMA over the 900MHz and 2100MHz bandwidth. All the Radar handsets are compatible with IEEE 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth® 2.1. Along with, you get the accelerometer, proximity and light sensors. The device is DNLA certified, nonetheless.

Camera

HTC Radar camera’s imaging chops are more than excellent. The f/2.2 lens with a backside-glowing sensor enables the user to take better snaps in low-lights as well. If you take pictures of shady areas of your home or any place you want, you can easily see the difference. One of the cons of the camera is the absence of motion blur and poor image quality if captured in an extremely dark place. The wide aperture of the camera will let you take the best and the most vibrant image, on the other hand. In mixed-light conditions, the camera is more likely to disappoint you. You will, at times, be dragooned to edit photos on Photoshop and other software. One interesting feature of the phone is burst-shots. At a time span of 2 seconds only, you will be able to capture five pictures! As far as the video recorder is concerned, the HTC Radar is much alike its rival, droid razr. It also has a VGA Cam at the front. The image quality from this additional camera isn´t great but fine for video calls.

Software

Mango’s latest updates have been rightly incorporated in this HTC Radar smartphone. Inbuilt apps like Shazam, Google Goggles and Yelp have become quite popular among the mobile phone users. Microsoft has put its best in improving the usability and performance compared to the other HTC lineups like HTC titan. You can find HTC Watch, Photo enhancer, Connected Media, HTC Hub, Locations and Notes all on the front screen. However, you are always at liberty to uninstall them at ease. Customization and user-friendliness are two big aspects of this handset.

But if you want to know a bit in detail about these HTC Apps, here’s some quick info for you. HTC Hub is a weather update tool that will inform you about the local time, date and weather while you can find weather updates of other locations as well. AccuWeather is a supportive app only. HTC Hub will also keep you updated about stock news. HTC Watch is a pay-to-play app that the company offers for its avid gamers. The Photo Enhancer enables the users to adjust tone and color aspects of a photo at a single click. There are hundreds of other applications that will just keep you busy with this HTC Radar in hand. HTC Radar deals will not let you down this winter.

HTC Radar Reviewed by Robert from Manchester, UK on Thursday, December 15, 2011

Rating: 2 out of 5.Robert rated the HTC Radar mobile phone 2 stars  Okay, but seen better

Knowing the popularity of HTC in smartphones I was expecting this phone to be extra iconic to its competitors, however its not so as an unexpected competitor has swept the winning patch by showing few really appreciable feature. though I am not sad buying this phone as it is woking fine but the human tendency is making me feel as if I have been fooled. Considering Nokia's lumia 800 which unexpectedly but genuinely gave straight competition to this smart king's product is really commendable. Wondering if I could get Lumia 800 in an exchange to my Radar.

Was waiting like anything for a good WP7 Smartphone. HTC Radar seems to put a stop to my craving.  Have heard that the Mango is running pretty smooth, a good news for a FB lover like me. Am looking forward to get a good deal on HTC Radar.
