- LED-backlit LCD capacitive touch screen
Sony Ericsson appear to be on a roll this year with a string of new releases for the Xperia range. The latest Smartphone to be added to the mix is the Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray. The Xperia Ray looks similar and has similar features to the sony-ericsson-xperia-arc that was released earlier this year. The casing of the Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray looks very sleek with clean lines. You will be able to choose from four attractive colours including black, white, pink and gold and in our opinion the gold definitely looks the best.
The screen of the Xperia Ray is a 3.3 inch LED-backlit LCD capacitive touch screen with 16 million colours and 480 x 854 pixels. This screen really is brilliant quality and provides a brilliant mobile phone experience. To add to this very bright and vibrant screen there is accelerometer sensor, multi-touch input, proximity sensor, scratch resistant display. Sony Ericsson’s own user interface Timescape is used with the screen being powered by a Bravia Mobile engine. This mobile phone is a great size at just 111 x 53 x 9.4 mm and it weighs just 100 grams, great if your don’t want a massive Smartphone that requires it’s very own bag. The battery life is pretty good with up to 440 hours standby time, up 7 hours talk time and 36 hours of music playback time.
Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray - Camera and Walkman

The must have accessory for a mobile phone these days is a good camera. Having a good camera saves us having to purchase a separate device and it means we can upload our photos in to social networking sites easily. You will be pleased to know the Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray has brilliant quality 8 mega-pixel Exmor R camera sensor. There is an LED flash for your low light shots, digital zoom, auto focus, touch-focus face detection and image stabilization. You can also enjoy the use of geo tagging giving you the ability to add geographical identification to your photos. For the Steven Spielberg’s out there your Xperia Ray will have a HD 720p video recorder and be able to make video calls on the additional 0.3 mega-pixel camera.
Sony Ericsson are well known for having good quality Walkmans, they even have a range dedicated to music players. We think the music player on this phone is good with eAAC+, WMA, WAV and MP3 formats you also have SenseMe and TrackID. TrackID is brilliant if you hear a song on the radio or in a club that you really like but have no idea what it is called. All you do is ask your phone to recognise the track and it will tell you the name and the artist. There is also an FM radio with RDS.
Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray - Network & Connectivity
One of the very vital points of a good mobile phone is the network and connectivity capabilities, after all these are mobile phones as well as cameras, mp3 players and games consoles. The Xperia Ray has very adequate features in this department. The network coverage is good with the 2G network covering GSM 850/900/1800/1900 with the 3G network covering HSDPA 2100 and HSDPA 850/1900/2100. This should give you good coverage wherever you are in the world.
For Your internet connectivity needs the Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray performs well. With the help of GPRS and EDGE for data transfers and your internet connectivity accessed via 3G or WiFi with DLNA and WiFi hotspot you will have internet connectivity wherever you go. For wireless data transfer the Xperia Ray has Bluetooth and for transfers using a cable to a compatible device you have microUSB v2.0. The much loved Android v203 Gingerbread operating system is present on the Xperia Ray so you can have fun with all of the brilliant Android apps available. Sony Ericsson have powered the Ray with a 1GHz Scorpion processor. There is an HTML web browser and Google search so its easy to find your favourite websites.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray - Features
There are plenty of little added extras on the Xperia Ray including GPS navigation with A GPS support, digital compass and Google maps. This comes with turn by turn instructions of how to get to you destination, voice directions and points of interest so no need to get lost again. If you use your phone for work then the document viewer will come in handy. For those of you who cannot live without using a social network site you will be happy to know the Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray has SNS integration along with YouTube and Google Talk. There will also be games to enjoy on this Smartphone. Staying in contact with your friends can be done through email, SMS with thread view, MMS and instant messaging as well as the old fashioned way of picking up the phone and calling someone. There is plenty of storage for your Android Apps, photos and music with 300 mega-bytes of internal memory with a 4 Giga-byte microSD card included, this can be expanded to 32 Giga-bytes.
Overall this mid-range handset is suitable for your everyday needs providing you with lots of great features. If you are looking for a work horse then this probably isn’t the best phone for you. Would we buy this phone, most definitely yes, it has everything you need in a phone without the massive price tag.
